Title: The fellowship of the Dude
Post by: Boston Rockbury on April 05, 2013, 01:36:02 PM
like a lot of dudes i find myself on monkey-feeding duties now and then and i don't always enjoy it. I have simplified my life a lot and that's been a really positive thing, but I'm wondering if this here forum might provide the basis for some laid-back monkey-feeding. Could we take some of the things that interest us and some of the skills we actually enjoy using and put them together in a groovy compeer enterprise that generates a few clams? i don't want to raise the head of the achieving monster from its slumbers but i think we could make it work in a very cool way if we abide through it.

just an idea dudes. maybe something to do with rock music or performance poetry or art would be fun.

anybody have any ideas?

Just had an idea myself whilst i was mixing some tile cement. this is not fully formed, probably take some smarter folk than me to make something sensible of it but here goes:

You know how there are groups who are really good but they never break through commercially. Lot of them keep going because they love what they do. We probably all know at least one group or singer like that right? how about organising an 'Undiscovered' gig where the best of these dudes could perform; Each group or individual could submit a video of their two best songs and the dudeocracy could vote on which ones to book for the live performance. might be able to get a TV co; to film it for a prog'. It would be a real interestin counterpoint to the disposible commercialism of a lot of music. Definately wouldn't feel like work; kinda project i really enjoy.

I wish I did have a good idea, been looking at how other 'religions' make the clams, but most models would not fit us, they sell a lot of fear, an I just don't think that is our gig.

Got a couple of not for profit ideas, a way to engage and employ Dudes to help alleviate some of the suffering in this world. One of my not ready for prime time ideas I have done quite a bit of leg work on already, but much more to go. One idea I always liked was some sort of Dudeist reaction squad (with a less hokey name), supported by donation, and sort of like the Red Cross. Go where the suffering is great, like disasters, and bring the thing we have to offer the world, comfort, and peace. Olly suggested setting up tents with hammocks, where the tired and suffering could find some Dudely rest and wisdom.

I dig all the music ideas you presented, but when it comes to the art of music, I am woefully lacking in talent. Promoting I gotz that, but me trying to make music is a crime against humanity.

I dropped out a couple of years ago, so on the personal level I am working on writing, engraving and looking at some small scale farming, like potted plants and herbs. My new personal code dictates that any money I make must conform to "right livelihood".

Some great ideas there dude. The Knights of Saint Dude arrive with hammocks and chamomile tea or what have you - awesome! That just has to happen.
I've recently got a small co-operative in Nepal to make up a load of dude sweaters from Himalayan wool so we could wear robes of office that don't always have to be bath robes. It's part of my 'Little Sisters of Redemption' charity I set up to keep Nepalese girls out of forced prostitution.

'Right livelihood' that would be a buddhist thing right?

As for the hammocks, let me find some old tutorial about hand-crocheting hammocks. It was the creation of a guy who watched his special lady crochet a sweater or scarf or someshit. He figured if he learned from her and used his fingers instead of hooks, he could do it. And lo and behold, dude did just that.

He used thick soft rope. Crocheting is rather simple, really.
