Researchers have developed software which could predict future events such as disease outbreak.

Psychohistory?

The prototype software uses a combination of archive material from the New York Times and data from other websites, including Wikipedia. The experts focused on predicting riots, deaths and disease outbreaks and say their accuracy was between 70%-90%.

Funny you should mention that I'm just working through the Foundation books on my Kindel at the moment.

The Three Theorems of Psychohistorical Quantitivity:

The population under scrutiny is oblivious to the existence of the science of Psychohistory.
The time periods dealt with are in the region of 3 generations.
The population must be in the billions (?75 billions) for a statistical probability to have a psychohistorical validity.

I wonder if they are working on it as a serious pursuit? Wouldn't surprise me, governments would love it. In the meantime, I found this on the net a while back. Was trying to get it in the eighties (give it 45 minutes or so from this post, Dropbox is still uploading it)...

Thanks for that DB.

I now have the problem of "Do I finish the books first or listen to the mp3?"

All my books are sitting in boxes waiting to join me in holland. I brought my Tolkien box set with me and am just about to finish the ring trilogy. Looks like I'll be hunting for the Asimov box when it arrives in a few weeks :)
