Title: The Tao of Pooh
Post by: KeepYourMindLimber on January 23, 2013, 03:45:10 PM
This book puts in plain English, what Taoism is. The book also shows that Winnie-the-Pooh emulates certain things about the Tao and how he uses wu-wei to solve his problems. With enough inferrence I began to realize Pooh and The Dude have ALOT in common. Very good read.

+1, I really like this book man, I recommend it to anyone who expresses an interest in Taoism.

And yes, this book could easily have been about the Dude  8)

I kind of like to think that Pooh's relationship with Hunny (not honey,  ;D) is sort of like the Dude's relationship with J's and White Russians. Eating honey all of the time is probably not the greatest thing for your body, and Pooh can't even correctly spell it! Whether or not pot or alcohol is good for your body, is an entirely different discussion. However one ain't legal either, (in some states). The Dude doesn't seem to care. I think it's the fact that both the Dude and Pooh both have P'u or a certain innocent simpleness about them, that prevents their habits from developing into negative ones.

As a former owner of two dwarf rabbits, I confirm that those animals are always busy. They run away quickly when something scares them but they come back as soon as possible and try to arrange things their own way. Something unexpected and 'useful' in their cage? Away with it! Literally - they will kick it out.

The book tells about the basics of Taoism in a simple and charming manner. The main idea here is to awoid complicated vocabulary of scholars. As the original book was mocking grown-up words too, I think the result here is good.
