Title: Dealing with De-Dudeifying People
Post by: anthonyabidesdude on December 26, 2012, 06:43:39 PM
So there's a person who's in the same social circle as mine, and is very tightly bound to it - we both are. Problem is, I find his company completely and utterly downing on my mood every night we go out to the same person's party or whatnot, occasionally things for me getting real bad...

Question is: how do I deal with this in a satisfying, but dudely way. I could punch the guy, but that wouldn't be good. I could yell at the guy, but that wouldn't be good. Ideally, I remain at my normal, dudely calm self. Any pointers?

I find that falling back on a classic dude-like expressions of wisdom usually does the trick; in your case, to your buddy, I would say "well, yeah, but that's just like your opinion, man."

I'm assuming here dude that your compadre moans a lot.Has a negative outlook as it were.I deal with these people with a few stock phrases I keep for such occaisions."Accentuate the positive","It ain't so bad","Onwards and upwards","Improvise, adapt and overcome".Or maybe this guy has a real problem and needs some help, you know, depression can sneak up on you in different ways.If he's a nihilist, well, watch out for the marmot dude.

In this case, I'd channel Walter rather than the dude. Specifically Walter dealing with the Jesus. Some how, watching a guy who loses his cool at the slightest provocation stay calm when he is being provoked is even more unsettling than seeing him lose his shit.
