Title: The dad abides
Post by: Leopoldrose on December 22, 2012, 08:10:27 PM
Hello Dudes! I asked his Whole-yness the Dudely Lama to add this because as a committed dudeist, and father, I know that nothing can make a dude uptight more quickly than his or her own little Larry Sellers. The other night I heard myself literally asking my daughter "is this your homework?" anyhow, I hope this is a place to offer each other support. I have two little lebowskis of my own, 2 and 11,and I have a private counseling practice working with kids on the Autism Spectrum. Looking forward to hearing your triumphs and challenges.

Two or so years ago at the age of 11 or 12 I let my son watch TBL, I wasn't sure at first cos of all the swearing.

He said "well I've watched 8 mile, mum let me." WTF!?

Green light from me. Go ahead I'll make popcorn mate!

He is very mature for his age though...horses for courses I guess! :)

Peace.

Maybe at the age they become Little Lebowski Achievers?  ...and proud we are of all of them.

Startin'early, startin'easy. I made this for my little mermaids, a 3 y.-o. and a 5 month. I'll have them speaking english when they grow up, so they can understand the original Lebowsky (in english) as soon as possible.

What do you think?

Good thread! Let me introduce myself. Been a fan of the movie since it came out, but mostly for its stoner humor. However, the further I got into studying Buddhism and then Daoism, the deeper elements of TBL revealed themselves to me.

I have a 2 year old son and girl twins on the way this year. Wife will have to stay home with the new brood, meaning two more mouths to feed on one less income. We're moving to the burbs from NYC, and there's definitely a constant refrain of Where's the money, Lebowski? Always playing in my head, but that could just be the stress talking. Strikes and gutters, you know?

Anyway, glad to have a place to talk Dudeist lifestyle with some like minded compeers.

Oh and Leopold, I'm a clinical psychologist in private practice, working mostly with young adults, so I'm guessing we have plenty in common to talk about over a some (cyber) beers, a few burgers, etc

This is great. As a parent and dude in need of getting back to my dude roots, I needed to see I am not alone. Let us teach them to abide.

I know it's my opinion, but I think vaping is not a good alternative to tobacco or else. If you want to quit smoking, you quit smoking, final dot. No alternative, no compensatory with gums (awfull taste, btw) or skinpatches.
You inhale vapors due to burning glycerol, it's as bad as "regular" smoking, maybe worst.
I don't trust this, it's a fashion thing.

But again, it's just my opinion.
After all, as some smarter fellow than myself once said :"Eat healthy, drink water, don't smoke, practice sport... die anyway...").

Agreed, as I think smoking is the act not the substance.

On that note, my older boys (22 +18), smoke, though the elder smokes tobacco and weed, the younger has tried smoking weed as a social thing and not stuck with it which is good. (I wish I'd never started smoking, though haven't smoked tobacco for like 2 years or so).

I have tried to not be a hypocrite about drugs or alcohol and hopefully educated them enough in the do's and don'ts, eg stay well clear of "legal" highs, chemicals etc, as I think as a parent, you can try to stop them from doing something, but they will more likely go and do it anyway and I'd prefer them to be honest rather than keep it a secret.

If they choose to partake, i want them to be safe and feel safe. The same goes with anything, really. All IMO.
