Title: The nice side of Scientology
Post by: Boston Rockbury on November 23, 2012, 01:00:13 PM
I don't know much about L Ron Weasley and Scientology but I had always accepted the standard view that they were a bunch of manipulative, money-grabbing nutters, hiding behind the cloak of 'religious expression'. But when I think about how stridently anti-psychiatry they are I can't help feel a certain admiration for them taking an absurd stand against something we take to be a solidly established part of our society. When you really look at psychiatry with all its lobotomies and mega-strong medication there is something a little fasist and disquietening about it.
Probably the worst thing psychaitry has done was to give Carrie Mathison ECT just because Nicholas Brody tricked her into thinking that she was mad because she had apparently made such a bad error of judgement. I felt so sorry for her when they fried her brains with electricity. At least for now Carrie seems okay again, but it makes you wonder who will be the next victim unless the Scientologists get a bit more support.

One of the problems I find with Scientology is it appears so driven by money. To get the main book costs ?180. At least you can just knock a gideons bible from a hotel ;)
