Title: Member Map
Post by: forumdude on October 06, 2012, 09:01:50 AM
Hey everybody, why not put your location on the member map? It's up there in the top menu. It's an easy way of finding out which Forumites live near you. Pretty cool.

I can never figure out how to do that... I guess a step-by-step would help us ludites...

First click on the link below the map that says "Click here to add or edit your pin location on the map."

Then scroll down to where it says "Member Map" and in the field to the right of it it says "Enter a location".

As you type in the location, it will show up automatically as you type. You can start from anywhere - just start typing a city if you don't want to put in your full address.

Then when your location appears in the drop down menu, click on it. The map will automatically adjust.

Then just click save and you're done!

Okay, THAT was easy!

I really am struggling to see stuff on my phone. Looks like I'll have to fire up the old laptop. But the map idea is cool fd. Is there a way to Import from the map m5 guides us to?

Hint one. I use firfox but could only get this to work with IE (bloody M$oft).

Also can we not import the data from the other map I was looking after?

hey meekon. i wonder why it doesn't work in mozilla. maybe you have an adblocker on? or some other plugin? it works fine in chrome and usually firefox and chrome seem to have the same characteristics. IE is the one that is always different or incompatible or just plain shitty.

i wish we could import that data but this map is tied directly to member profiles on the forum. that map's pins are all manually added. That's a bummer.

i'm currently trying to figure out how to get a map tied in with the social network we're building. so i guess we'll have a bunch of maps! but i'm also looking at trying to add some more social networking, "group building" mods to the forum to help people pal around in real life, if they choose. bunch of tinkering left to do.

Hey Meekon, just added the old map to the Member Map menu item. Still a valuable resource no doubt!

are you running any adblocking software in your browser? maybe try logging in with a different browser? (internet explorer, firefox, chrome, etc?)

can you post a screenshot of the page?

Stever, you've got to put yourself on manually. See instructions here: http://dudeism.com/smf/articles/?sa=view;article=2 (http://dudeism.com/smf/articles/?sa=view;article=2)
