Hey, things look different around here, don't they? That's because we just performed a major upgrade of the forum software. The older version was getting out of date and it was impossible to add new features.
Look for some cool new features in the weeks to come.
Also, if you notice anything not working right, let me know.
How do you like the new theme? The old one didn't work with the new system. We're going to tweak it a bit.
We're also going to add mobile support to make it easier to browse on your smart phone, if you've got one.
Okay, that was exhausting. Time to pop open some oat sodas.
Take er easy dudes.
I definitely like the new set up.
I thought I'd broken it at first!
It's going to take a bit to find where everything is again.
Nice new look! I always like something new to stimulate my neurons. (People forget that the brain is the biggest erogenous zone.) ;D
One more thing: I miss the new posts at the bottom of the forum page...
hey hominid - is this (below) what was there before? i can't remember. we have it in the right column too. how does it look? i also added "most viewed" and "most commented." cheers.
Digging the new style forumdude!!!
Nice pad, man! Like the upgrade, forumdude.

Ya, similar, except it didn't have the graphic cluttering it up. The one I remember was on the main page where all the headings where... at the bottom, it had the title of each most-recent post and who posted last. It was a very convenient way of viewing all active threads, instead of poking around each page.
That's pretty cool how you can customize it like this....
Looks very different dude. I tend to use my iPhone (aargh, apple, I know but it is from my work) and it is all a bit awkward to navigate but we will adapt.
I do lke the close up of m5 nose on his I'd though ;)
Sorry, testing out some software that will make it easier to read on a phone. What we've got now looks like shit. I'm going to disable it so it's just the regular site like it was before (instead of the mobile theme).
Milnie, were you using the tapatalk plugin? Because that doesn't seem to work with the new upgrade. But I think there's a better solution out there - I'll buy it today and test it out.

I know it wasn't aimed at me, but I use Tapatalk, too. If there is a better solution, I can't wait. :)
I can't get the tapatalk deal to even let me into the forum. Anyone else have that issue?
Try it now. I just figured out that there was an unadvertised upgrade of the software which solves the issue! It just started working for me after a lot of hair pulling. Also, I'm working on getting a new automatic mobile theme (if you visit via your phone browser) to work with the layout - at the moment the sidebars screw up the layout. I have to figure out how to turn them off for the mobile version. Not everyone wants to pay (or, uh, find other ways) to get the tapatalk app. But it seems that the mobile theme isn't as robust as tapatalk. So anyway, we've got options...
Awesome!!!! Thanks forumdude!!! It works like a champ!
Far out! Also, I got the mobile theme to work. It's pretty nice. Only thing that's a bit confusing is that the menu of actions (like recent posts) is in the very bottom left corner. Try browsing to www.dudeism.com/smf in your phone browser and let me know what you think. I think tapatalk is a bit nicer but this is free, easy and automatic.
Not shabby. The mobile version is pretty clean and cool!! Right on forumdude!
Totally righteous dude... looks great! We ALL really appreciate the work you put into this BTW......
i've seen tapatalk mentioned in a few posts recently and even looked it up in the istore but they wanted to charge me for it so i am just browsing using safari already installed on the phone. that said, this message is being written on my laptop so everything looks pretty sweet.
hold on, just fired up the iphone and the forum now looks good, similar to the main website with all the rollign menus etc. pretty cool dudes. FD, i think you will need to take another holiday after sorting all this shit out dude. me, i'm heading out for a j, look at the stars, and see what else everyone has been saying if the battery lasts ;)
For me, Tapatalk works... sort of. I can get the first screenful of posts, but then it FCs when it tries to load more. Not a problem, since I already had it for a couple other programming forums.
So I'll be using the mobile theme. By the way, it's great! Thanks for all your work, forumdude.
Edit: Tapatalk works on all other forums, except here. I didn't specify that in my original post.
Hey Miline or whomever else with an iphone, are you getting a page showing the full website (sort of purpley) or a mobile theme (simplfiied, in blue, looks like an app more than a website)? i have an android phone and it works fine on that but i just tested the forum at http://iphonetester.com/ (http://iphonetester.com/) and it shows the full site. so maybe the mobile theme tester isn't working with iphone. hmm.
I use tapatalk app for several forums and it seems to be working ok for me.
hey forumdude, i am seeing the site in the mobile theme and when i click on full site it reloads the mobile. i'm getting the hang of the mobile version but cant seem to find the login. i can only get to it by going through the "whos online" button.
maybe a dialogue box across the top like the original could be added? and maybe the little button with lots of boxes on it (navigation?) could also be moved to the top rather than the bottom? just some thoughts dude, i'm easy either way ;)
yeah, that mobile theme is more and more annoying - lots of stuff left out. i guess i'll have to hack into it a bit! shame that that's the only one out there for this software. but i guess it wouldn't be too hard to place a couple of extra links in that menu. i also wish the menu was on the top instead of way on the bottom. moving it might be problematic, but i'll try!
don't suppose we have any php coders who would like to help with a little of the forum maintenance? i'm sort of like a child who wanders into the middle of a movie here... ;)
I second the log in comment, took me ages to find where to log in also seem to get logged out when I use my phone even though it was set to 'don't log out' and it still shows me as online.
Abide
for the moment you can log in by visiting the navigation menu on the bottom left and looking at "who's online". are any of the forumites familiar with php? i can't figure out how to program the code. been going back and forth with the guy who makes the menu and he hasn't been able to help, or doesn't want to.
if i can't figure it out i'll have to hire someone i guess. so close to having the forum all set up and rolling and this is the only problem i can see at the moment.
Okay, I've come up with a solution. There's now a "navigation" button on the top left. Looks a little lopsided but does the trick. I manually coded the important links on a new navigation page. Let me know if I left any out!
Some of the page (social network, map) look a little cockeyed in the mobile theme, but look better if you turn your phone sideways (wide screen).
Holy shit, that looks great on my tablets! ...both the Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0, and 10.1 that I use. A definite achievement! Good work, forumdude! (http://dudeism.com/smf/Themes/default/images/post/thumbup.gif)
now the map doesn't show up on the mobile theme. oh well, it doesn't really fit there. i'll leave that for now...
tinker tailor coder sigh.

No worries, can't be bothered by that shit; life goes on, man.

the nav button works a treat
I like the new look!
Glad that I wasnt the only one who thought he broke something...first look at the new look,I thought I was having an acid flashback, but it was all good.
