Title: Australian church admits abuse

Australian Roman Catholic Church admits child sex abuse

The Roman Catholic Church in the Australian state of Victoria has confirmed that more than 600 children have been sexually abused by its priests since the 1930s.

Hey dude I get caught up in looking at other people's shit too - but I truely believe that enlightenment comes from sorting out one's own shit.

In my case that would be a tendency to show off and prove how clever, successfull etc' I am. In that respect I'm an asshole.

I would agree, but we can't ignore evil around us and do nothing. Undudeness must be addressed.

DOING something about evil is one thing. Thicht Naht Hahn helped the wounded on both sides during the Vietnam war - that was doing something about evil. He didn't sit around bitching about what a load of colonial assholes the Americans were. A lot of priests are peadophiles - okay we got that. What next? Buy the bumper sticker to tell the world, and show how morally superior we are?

Publicly exposing them, like here, is a powerful way to bring justice to them, and to those who protect them.

I agree that what you say would seem logical but shame and blame drive people deeper into self-protection and lies. Paedophiles are so empty and afraid that they will be totally selfish to get some sort of relief from their lonliness. I have worked with rapists, child-killers and paedophiles. They only get better when they feel acceptance and love. Of course their actions make it incredibly difficult to feel that for them but that's just how it is.

"shame and blame drive people deeper into self-protection and lies" ...I'm OK with that, as long as they're busted and punished. This behavior in the Catholic Church (or anywhere, for that matter) has to be addressed and stopped, not covered up.

...IMHO ;)

I think there is an important distinction between acts performed by individuals and those which are covered up, propagated and encouraged by an institution. We all have our individual faults, of course. Having corrupt, rotten institutions is pouring gas on these fired, ITDO.

If we were talking about Politicians or boy scout leaders would it be permissible to point it out?

Dude you are on a site called Dudeism.
It's a parody of religion.
Like you would find a lot of discussion about motorcycles on a site about motorcycles you generally find a lot of discussion about Religion here and since we stand by our very existence as sinful in light of at least 2 of the 10 commandments you are probably going to find a generally condemnatory attitude toward organized religion.
You seem to be posting over and over again suggesting that it would be best to not point out these sort of things about Religion while freely criticizing anything else.
