Bob Marley and Haile Selassie I aka Jah Rastafari.
Bob Marley has been nominated, and seconded in previous posts. I would second the nomination of Haile Selassie I - Conquering Lion of the Tribe of Judah, Lord of Lords, King of Kings of Ethiopia and Elect of God , as a Dude, but with all those titles I just can't see it

It would have to depend on his attitude toward those "titles," and this is, like, just my opinion, man. But the dude (our own Jeff Lebowski of bowling fame) referred to himself as "The Dude," "Duder," "His Dudeness," and "El Duderino, if, you know, you're not into the whole brevity thing.....and made the divine statement that "The Dude Abides."
Now, Dude, that's a name no one would self-apply where I come from. But then, there was a lot about the Dude that didn't make a whole lot of sense to me.
Also, I have read up on Haile Selassie I, and history records him as a great dude with a pretty humble attitude toward himself. The dude stood up to the fucking German nazis' during WWII as did many of his county men (country dudes) when they told the fucking Italian fascists "across this line YOU DO NOT!..."
Have to second the nomination for dudeness for Haile Selassie, mang.
Check some vid history of Haile Selassie ........

D-Buddha thanks for the link, it was very helpful. I guess that in spite of the fact that he, as king, was the ultimate authority figure that he was at the very least Dude-like if not a Dude
Yeah, I think he had enough dude in him to be considered a great dude in history, but that's just my opinion, man.

amazing how Dudeness can cancel out being "The Man", I'd have to say your opinion is right on the dot
