I mean I'm trying to keep my mind limber here on this issue, but the strands in old Brandt's head keep running a theme of negativity
I mean, he was always pissing off Walter
Never had his own transpo
Giving up the come hither look to Quintano
Asking stupid questions; i.e. "what do you need your Johnson for Dude"?;" what's wrong with Walter, Dude?", and the ultimate duh.."who peed on your rug, Dude?", followed closely by "That's your name, Dude"
AM I WRONG?
Yeah Brandt, what's your point? ;D
Yeah...what's your point brandt? ;D
I think Brand hates Donny.
Donny who loved bowling?
Yes, Donny, the sweet prince, a man who loved the outdoors.
....and surfing. ;D
Yeah, the one who died as so many of his generation, before his time.
Donny Care-abouts-us.
They shot Donny?
The point is, my point is, he let aggression stand,.. did he not?
And, and ,let's not forget, that he let aggression stand on several occassions, without the necessary means, the necessary means to draw that line in the sand, across which you do not step over.
I realize that these all appear to be a series of victimless crimes, and..and I believe he staged his own death..as homework
But here's my point, let's not forget the other Donny, that rich fuck Buscemi, who when interviewed about attending a Lebowski fest, declined in a most unDude attitude, casting aspersions on the mental faculties of those committed to DUDEISM et al
AM I WRONG
Ever thus to dead Donny...no sequel
But that's just like my opinion, man
He was the Walrus.
Shomar fuckin' Shabbas
donny was sensitive to missing his bowling shot, prior to the fucking nihilist believing in nossing. and violence was not the answer dudes!
and as a surfer he explored the beaches of Southern California, from La Jolla to Leo Carrillo and... up to... Pismo
i think donny , walter, dude are the holy trinity within ourselves, different aspects of one individual and donny, well, donny represents to me innocence and vulnerability.
and thats no 'come hither' look to jesus, man! that was flat out childlike confusion. donny is not a man, he's an aspect of childhood that needs protecting. JMHO.
Also, let's not forget, let's not forget the Dude accepted Donny as he was, flaws and all. That's good enough for me.
how can you be a dudeist and be glad donny is dead? im still trying to figure that one out.
Donny was a good man, and thorough.
Father, Son, Holy Ghost?
Walter, Donnie, Dude?
One suggestion for the meaning of the line "the dude Abides" is
Quote
The line, "The Dude abides" is a reference to Ecclesiastes 1:4 in The Bible: "One generation passes away, and another generation comes: but the earth abides forever."

Donnie dying does bolster the view that he is the "son".
He was doomed from the beginning.
I guess that's the way the whole durned human comedy keeps perpetuatin' it-self,
down through the generations, westward the wagons, across the sands a time.

I get the foregone death thing but I'd still switch Donnie and the Dude in that ordering. Then their personalities perfectly mirror the scripture [i.e., Walter = old testament, Dude = new testament, and Donny = the holy ghost (e.g., Donny is the only one who dies and, even when he was alive, only communicated with Walter and once with the Dude)].*
Shit, on second thought, what about Donny as the symbolic offspring ("son") of Walter and the Dude? That seems consistent with his attempts to play the middle between two feuding parents (Walter and Dude), the references to him being a "child", and various sundry other stuff I'll have to look for the next time I watch TBL. Thanks, dudes, for sparking this interesting tangent.
*That's right, a bracket/parenthetical and i.e./e.g. combo, bitches.

Not that it matters, but the Dude speaks directly to Donny twice in the movie. The first time is in the bowling alley when the Dude and Walter are discussing who should replace the Dude's newly soiled rug, and Walter is going off on the first of his tirades:
Walter: ...We're talking about unchecked aggression here.
Donny (to the Dude): What the fuck is he talking about?
Dude (to Donny): My rug.
The second is the the parking lot of the bowling alley after the discover the Dude's car has been stolen and the Dude walks away from Walter and Donny:
Donny: Where you going, Dude?
Dude: Home, Donny.
Donny: Phone's ringing, Dude.
Dude: Thank you, Donny.
