Title: Fargo
Post by: Turtle on July 18, 2008, 07:58:05 AM
Just saw it, not bad, I love the way the Coens play with different polarities of personality.

Also, just a way of unraveling the story that keeps you on the edge of your seat, I dont
know why or how, but it does.

Anybody else see it? Like it?

Yer dern tootin' I like it.

Darkly humorous and engaging, it can still be very unsettling in it tragic elements.

You can use that quote to market the movie, if you like.  ;D

Seriously, I do like this movie a lot, mainly because of its strong characters and the way it balances the aspects of darkness and light in life.

Thematically, it reminds me of No Country for Old Men (the theme of decent humanity encountering profound evil) only NCfOM doesn't have the reassuring frame of the loving relationship between the pregnant sherrif and her husband.

The sherrif in No Country has a good marriage, apparently, but at the end he only has an odd dream of his dead father that he finds some comfort in and even that is fleeting. I think the female sherrif is unsettled about what kind of world she's bringing her child into, but there's a sense of ambiguous hope at the end of Fargo that No Country doesn't offer.

In fact, No country for old man is some kind of resume of the others Coen's movies, you can find some little scenes of the others movies, but with some variations.I think Coens brothers have a constant thematic.I love all their movies movies except Raising Arizona, i don't know why but i just don't like it, maybe is because i can't see Nicolas Cage...i hate him, but is the stress talking because i know that is a very good movie.

Cage is good in other stuff, i.e Con Air&Face Off, but truly did suck in Raising Arizona, but that's just like my opinion, man

Fargo showed Uli, Donny and the Cooler heading to the high ground of their game

So Fargo was really based on a true story as it says in the beginning of the movie?

Oh...and I saw NCFOM some months ago, I didn't like it too much, thought it was kind of dumb.
Just my opinion.

In Fargo Donny(i can't remember his name in Fargo) speak to much that's why in The big lebowski Walter says shut up Donny...i read it on I'm a lebowski, you're a lebowski, the bible.

Thats interesting Dudette, thats fucking interesting.

Yeah, Steve Buscemi, man, that guy can act, I think he actually had more dignity in The Big L than in Fargo tho.
I prefer the spaced out surfer/bowler to the freaked out murderer/kidnapper, you know.  ;D

That's cool about NCFOM. I happened to think it was spot on, though...seemed to me to be a commentary on evil's unchecked aggression in the current corporate wasteland we inhabit. But that's just like my opinion, man.

Also, Dude, the "based on a true story" thing in Fargo was something of a hoax perpetrated by the Coen Bros. At least that's what I've heard anyway.
