Title: Call for ban on airbrushed photographs!
Post by: meekon5 on May 01, 2012, 03:23:46 AM
Saw this young lady interviewed on the BBC this morning.

I can only agree with finally banning this stupid practice.

Too long have we had this horrible body image thrust in our faces by the media.

"Posh" Beckham is demonstrably ill, I saw someone suggest the "debate" about her weight would go "on and on". Just look at her previous pictures from the start of The Spice Girls and at her pictures now and tell me there is any debate.

The world should follow the French (for once) and ban size zero all together.

The whole sick thing is fueled by the public's disgusting obsession with so-called "celebrities" and the money that can be made with celebrity magazines and websites. People being obsessed and addicted to celebrities and every aspect of their personal lives is ridiculous. These people have no life, so they live their lives through celebrities and the worthless gossip available about them. Such people are to be pitied.

And to think France was ridiculed for introducing the size 0 ban!
At what point did people become famous for nothing? The mind boggles about how much money is generated by essentially nothing

Good point, they call it being "famous for being famous." What a waste of time.

I can't stand that.

But there seems to be a serious nerd underground that actually deals with meaningful shit. Glimmers of hope, here and there. Like Neil Degrasse Tyson is a celebrity now. I can dig that.

And let us not forget Dr. Michio Kaku. (sorry, too lazy to find a smaller picture ;D)

I'm waiting for physicist trading cards, I follow it like a sports fan.

But this whole every picture has to be airbrushed to unreal image portrayal is a problem. As if life were not hard enough fo some, now they are trying to live up to a fantasy.

I've always lived up to fantasy... hence why I grew that massive dwarven beard! :)

I think it's the culture of idolitry that drags people down.  Most people aren't brought up to be their own selves, they're brought up without an ID and look to others to follow in the footsteps of.  That's what's great about Dudeism, it celebrates the indervidual and people be themselves, not clones of some media figure... errr... well, not including the Lebowskiists amongst us, I guess :P

Just back from the Netherlands and there was a news report on the royal family (Dutch) and one of the news presenters were criticising one of the princesses for being too thin! And she must have been a size 8. Good on the Dutch for having a real sense of perspective

Now, that is fucking interesting, man. I've been dealing with this a lot lately as my oldest Little Duder has reached the age where she is paying more attention to these airbrushed atrocities. A noble cause, indeed, and one I will actually get up off the couch for to sign this petition...oh, wait, I can do it from here...nice :)

Yes sorry about that none UK Dudes.

It's still a good cause.

Set up you're own local petition in support.

Yeah saw that after the fact, but will definitely be looking into a more local way to support.
