Title: What fuel shortage
Post by: milnie on March 30, 2012, 09:52:47 AM
Good god! The uk government by saying there may be a fuel shortage due to an impending strike (that the union says wont happen) instantly creates a fuel shortage by telling everyone to go and fill up, which they do!
Wtf?
Trying to get a few more pennies before the duty changes me thinks.

Looks like they are creating the reality they want. Wall Street, in the US, does it all the time.

Has this got anything to do with EU policies as far as you can tell? Anyone speculating on that?

Talk of strikes started because of the EU rules....but the panic buying
QuoteDemand for petrol rose 172% on Thursday, and diesel by 77%, according to independent retailers' group RMI Petrol.
was started by a government Minister saying people should stockpile fuel.

Fucking irresponsible twat and worse fucking stupid sheeple...we didn't have a shortage before hand...now we do...and worse than that the bastards at the fuel courts have increased the prices even more....it's now nearly ?1.50 a litre...that's 11 dollars a gallon folks!

:o :o :o :o :o :o :o

Holy shit! 11 claims a gallon US! Wow, I was bitching at $4.75 a gallon here in California. Do you do a lot of driving, dude?

Is that high because of the cost of fuel or taxes?

In the US, about 30% is federal, state and even county taxes.

It's that high because of taxes and fuel duty...we import most of our fuel but even so we pay the most per gallon in the world. So basically it's just tax!

And DB I only drive to work and to see Chantelle in the care home....around 500 miles a month and about  ?120 from my wallet...my road tax is ?240 a year and my insurance is ?500...have you seen the state of our roads? The potholes at the moment have totalled my wide rimmed alloys and they aint cheap to replace either! :(

Governments everywhere in the world are about the most wasteful and inefficient things human beings have ever come up with. Sometimes I think we should abolish all governments and establish a dudetopia and just slack and abide. Fuck government, its over rated!

In the beginning the Universe was created. This has made a lot of people very angry and been widely regarded as a bad move  ;D

Quotewho does your math? 1.50/liter=11clams/gallon

One pound fifty pence sterling per litre

4.5 Litres to the gallon

4.5 x 1.5 = Six pounds seventy five pence

UK sterling to US dollar conversion = TEN Dollars Eighty One cents

I see nothing wrong with my Maths...perhaps you do things differently over there.  ;)

Nice to see you back NEAL

The math I'm interested in is that our fuel cost has doubled.
I suspect that there is a big difference in lifestyle between the US and UK.
I commute daily over an hour each way to work. And many many others in this town do likewise.
Double the cost for gas turns into a big expense.
In a lot of cases it effects people lifestyle. Some will need to make sacrifices.
No vacation this summer with the family. That sort of thing.
I'm not to that point yet but it does add up in a hurry.

Oh and as far as the reality creation...
It does grind my gears when the excuse they use for higher gas prices is something about being nervous over something or other happening in the mideast. No real effect on supply. Just the fear that something might happen later.

Thanks its nice to be back
Maybe you did have the necessary means to go to college, but it's common knowledge that Imperial Gallons will not fit in North American cars. (because of where the driver sits)
Use 3.78 as a conversion factor. That's a foul. Mark it, well not zero, but ...

Now back to the main point.

Run cars on hydrogen (waste products = H2O = water).

Hydrogen fuel cells are a possibility but remember the Hindenburg ;)
I think it is one of the Japanese car makers who are planning a car where you buy the car and rent the fuel cell as it needs replaced every 5 years. Not sure how they can be recycled though?

This is why I hate the modern monetary systems, they are so easily manipulated. The gas industry of the western world is a perfect example. I've worked at the same gas station 7 years and have watched the manipulations and bs over and over. Sadly the current reason for the increasing US gas prices isn't some imaginary "impending strike" like you all in the UK are experiencing, but the fact it's a election year, although no one will say that's the official reason. I saw the same exact increase back in 2008 which was also an election year.

Yeah I believe that is the future.
Electric cars won't ever be popular. 12 hours or more to recharge just won't cut it.
And hybrids are really disappointing. They would make sense if they got 50 miles/gallon or more.

With a "Manhattan project" for hydrogen fuel cell cars it could happen. Gotta get the infrastructure in place for refill stations and the car companies need to be on board also.
There are still some things to iron out. Cost and reliability at high and low temperature are a big problem now.

Most people don't realize that hydrogen fuel cell cars are electric. But it's like a battery that never goes dead as long as you keep feeding it hydrogen. But as of now a lot of the parts won't last very long. And they are still expensive to replace.
