Actually DB this is exactly what happens here in the UK.

The best government health care system (I had to do a module on the subject at university so have extensively studied equitable distribution and viable continuation in centrally managed health care systems as part of my degree) is the German system, where you as an individual pay into a private managed fund that then negotiates with the health care provider on your behalf for their services, allowing for a safety net for those of reduced income who fall below a certain income level.

All the US has done is pinch the UK system, we all hold National Health cards that identify us individually, what we can get on the NHS (National health System) is all dictated by central government, and as for government having access to your finances, don't they already have that?

I had so many jobs when I was younger I can still recite my ni number.
The German system sounds interesting. Is there government oversight to make sure local hospitals don't charge different rates for the same thing?

That is some disconcerting stuff. I can't remember; did the law pass and it takes full effect in 2014 or is it still up for debate?

US Supreme Court hears challenge to Obama healthcare law

The US Supreme Court has finished the first day of a landmark hearing on the constitutionality of President Barack Obama's signature healthcare reform.

Twenty-six US states are challenging the 2010 law, which greatly expands access to health insurance but is called unconstitutional by critics.

They say the requirement to buy insurance intrudes on civil liberties.

The court will hear three days of argument, with a ruling expected during June - in the thick of election season.

In some cases, yes; as an example if you owe a large amount back taxes. "Obama care," as it is sometimes called, would greatly increase the governments power over your finances. Very dangerous and a step toward more and more totalanistic government.
