Title: Who are the newly emerging Dudes?
Post by: SmokeytheBuddha on June 29, 2008, 08:42:22 AM
I dig all the nominations for Great Dudes in History (parts anyway), but what about the emerging Dudes of promise whose necessary dudeness, necessary dudeness isn't widely known at the moment?

Any suggestions?

Smokey, you're not over the line here, you're right on...I mean there is potential for great things and amazing talent laying in repressed states within many people in the country and the world...and this new shit IS NOT coming to light....

Culture has taken a turn into dark times in my opinion, although I know thats not a very dudelike philosophy, I cant help but feel that someone, something, some power that be....is pissing on the creative spark in all of us.

If any talent, any spark, does survive being miterated upon, it definitely deserves to be recognized. So go ahead and post it!

I too have some very un-Dude concerns about our current corporate-owned and controlled culture.

A quote from Dudeist Compeer Bill Hicks seems to apply...it's the one about all the "fevered egos running amok and tainting our collective unconscious and making us pay a higher psychic price than we realize." That was late '80s early '90s. Nothing changes.

Although these are very un-Dude times, we will abide. The bear may be eating us now, but someday we'll eat the bear. That's how the whole durned human comedy keeps perpetuatin' itself, I guess.

I guess so.
I dont know if its corporate-owned, government-owned, owned by a secret society, or owned by evil aliens from a hostile species.
I dont know who the hell is controlling things, but whoever it is, if anyone is, they're fucking it all up.

Anyway, I'm goin bowling.

By the way, nice move quoting Bill Hicks:

"I'm just trying to rid the world of all these fevered egos that are tainting our collective unconscious and making us pay a higher psychic price than we imagine."

Heres some more from him:

"I'm me, it's true. Shut the fuck up."

"You're so pro-life, you're so pro-life, do me a fuckin' favor. Don't block med clinics. Lock arms, and block cemeteries."

"People who hate people, come together!"
"NO."

"Once again, I recommend a healthy dose of psilocybin mushrooms..."

"Isn't it interesting that the two drugs that are legal, alcohol and cigarettes, are the two drugs that do absolutely nothing for you whatsoever, and drugs that grow naturally on this planet, drugs that open your eyes up to make you realize how you're being fucked every day of your life---those drugs are against the law. Wow! Coincidence? I don't know."

"Speaking of Satan, I was watching Rush Limbaugh the other day..."

"Can you calm down on your rutting just for a couple of seconds until we figure out this food-air deal?

"You want a better world, ladies and gentlemen? Legalize pot, right now."

"Gays in the military. Here's how I feel about it, all right? Anyone dumb enough to want to be in the military should be allowed in."

"I just think it's interesting to see how people act on their beliefs, you know what I mean? 'Cause your beliefs, they're just that, they're nothin', there's how you were taught, and raised. That doesn't make 'em real. That's why I always recommend a psychedelic experience, 'cause it does make you realize that everything you learned is in fact just learned, and not necessarily true."

We must have faith that a good Dude abiding well can still redeem all us sinners...

Nah, I cant subscribe to the Jesus, savior, hero type scenario, its just a precursor to Fascism.
Its gotta be a group effort.

Yeah thats true, but people are always lookin for someone else to rescue them.

Truth is that nobody is holier than anybody else, we all have potential for all kinds of good and bad.

There have already been PLENTY of great dudes throughout history to show us the way, we dont need
another one, we dont need to sacrifice him or her as an example, its time to grow up as a species.

What do you mean "we don't need to sacrifice him or her as an example"? I didn't rent the good Dude shoes.  I'm not buying him or her a fucking beer.  He or she is not taking you're fucking turn, Dude.

And let's also not forget--let's not forget, Dude--that following fascism, uh, any reactionary ideology, for uh, you know, personal, within the mind--that ain't Dudeist either. ;)

Seriously, I wasn't implying that we nail up or shoot a good Dude as some sort of blood sacrifice for our sins. I'm also certainly not saying we should worship anyone. That'd be very un-Dude. I was saying that all it takes is a good Dude abiding well (even a fictional one like in TBL) to remind those of us who aren't "there" yet what life's really all about.

You cite Gandhi, but without him, would there have been the same kind of revolution in India that resulted from his influence? He wasn't the sole influence, certainly, but he was a soul influence, in the parlance of our mystics.

Of course....and he was shot.

Yet....that's what always happens.

Well, in terms of Christianity, there are Christians who emphasize the humanity of Jesus over the divinity of Christ (he wasn't offically declared divine until sometime in the third century). The whole "Christology from below" vs. "Christology from above" thing.

I say fuck it, draw from what inspires you and go your own way. It sucks that we've got to deal with the reactionaries and nihilists, but that's life. That's what I'm saying about the importance of abiding well...it sends ripples of hope to others who are inclined toward it.

Just my opinion, man.
