Title: Tell Congress: Don't censor the Web
Post by: DigitalBuddha on January 18, 2012, 12:47:42 AM
Millions of Americans oppose SOPA and PIPA because these bills would censor the Internet and slow economic growth in the U.S.

Two bills before Congress, known as the Protect IP Act (PIPA) in the Senate and the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the House, would censor the Web and impose harmful regulations on American business. Millions of Internet users and entrepreneurs already oppose SOPA and PIPA.

The Senate will begin voting on January 24th. Please let them know how you feel. Sign this petition urging Congress to vote NO on PIPA and SOPA before it is too late.

It's a question of the Big Lebowskis and the Little Lebowskis ... they (TBL) are more powerful individually, but maybe TLL have a shot if they band together ... it's really bad news if it passes.

FWIW I believe it's just the beginning. There's no doubt the legalistas will intrude on the phenomenal freedom the Internet creates to distribute information. This is dangerous stuff!!! (For anyone who wants to hide information from the masses.)

Think about how the distribution and free access to information is shifting societies ... and any government relies on controlling the people's opinions, beliefs and values. The larger a government becomes the more it requires the people to conform. The trade-off is "We'll protect you, keep you safe, provide jobs ... make you comfortable ... and you stay quiet and conform."

Ultimately what it means is sacrificing the kids man. In order to keep the system in check you have to begin the indoctrination early ...

But Dudeism is a major way out ... doing your own thing ... checking the condition your condition is in man.

Hey ... just abide (but don't roll over ... roll your own instead).

It may be fifty years later but the call to end the reign of "The Man" may be making a comeback ... be truly cool if the Internut was the vehicle which both exposed and ejected the rule of the few over the will of the many ...

Be like going from Republic to Democracy ... and then the vapid words spoken by our "elected" publicans will begin ringing true when the speak to the spread of democracy (not a keep of a public house, i.e.: inn or tavern, in this case ... but a maker and enforcer of the laws, especially those designed to tax the oppressed to their own gain and stature).

'mazing to me personally how many good folk think they live in a democracy and that their vote counts ... it only counts until you give complete control of it over to your elected officials ... be they Prime Ministers, Presidents ... congressmen/women, senators ... or whatever label your particular local government using to persuade you that you have a voice. Yet this is the vote we possess today in most of the Western style governments on the planet ... a republic filled with publicans ... who speak in their own voice and not yours.
