Title: I don't scrum on the Sabbath!
Post by: Rev. Ed C on September 23, 2011, 08:55:04 AM
See, even the gargantuan man-mountains/rock trolls that play rubgy can have a bit of religion in their hearts :)

I respect the dude's dedication to his beliefs, but I hope Dudeism never gets that legalistic. And I wonder if he knows that traditionally the sabbath was from Friday at sunset to Saturday at sunset?

DB: you're right about the sabbath. Or "Sabboath" as pronounced in the OT.

Dogma is self-serving. It elevates the ego to a position above everyone else. "I'm better that you, because I've made a stand based on my belief system. You're less than me because you fucking roll on shabus".

If you bell-curved it, you'd find religion doing more harm than good. This new politically correct activity of praising someone for standing up for their obscure belief system is bullshit. What if I claimed that Peter Rabbit saved my soul, and I worshiped at the Hutch every Wednesday, so - sorry - I don't roll on Wednesdays. I bet you more than half the room would go all gaga because I stood up for "my beliefs". And the press would cover it of course...

Fucking hogwash.

True, there is a certain self righteousness that comes from following the tenets of any religion. Also the feeling of superiority that comes with it. May dudeism remain simple, clear, easy going, and a way of seeing all people as equal, and all paths of value, respecting the dignity of every person.

Despite the violence, rugby is a pretty Dudeist activity. You beat the living shite out of each other for 90 minutes, and then it all stays face down in the muck. The opposing teams walk to the sidelines and partake of massive amounts of oat soda together. Any uptight feelings are left on the pitch. We would play on Saturday, leaving the Sabbath for recovering in a hot bath (sans marmots).

Well, I just hope he doesn't eat shellfish, or wear mixed fibers, and that he beats his children when they disobey...

Um... what, and who are you referring to?  It's a rather obtuse reference...

Welcome to our beach community, dude. Grab a rug, an oat soda and share the wealth.
