Title: A topic in which to wander.
Post by: Caesar dude on August 27, 2011, 06:59:32 PM
I'd like to start this topic by saying I'd love someone to hijack it. Could I please have some intelligent debate on whatever it is you'd like to talk about...leave the fire breathing penguins out of this please and also the stuff about hijacking threads cos I'm bored with all that nonsense. I'd like to hear from Meekon who clearly (and rightly in my opinion) kept his head firmly below the parapet during these recent debates. if you know what I mean...nudge nudge wink wink!? I'll start with......anyone for a game of monopoly? (Caveat) No bankers are allowed.  :D

Peace dudes.

I just had some thai soup that gives the same type of feeling that passing around a bowl or drinking a bit of whiskey does. Nice tingly feeling.

Hopefully all you dudes are enjoying the night, taking part in whichever vice you prefer. :)

I'd like this opportunity to talk about the Black Library's Warhammer novels.  I'm currently reaching the climax of the second novel in the Florin & Lorenzo omnibus.  It's getting verse tense as...

Wait, what were te talking about again??

i've discovered gin, the liquid, not the game, and its working really well for me though the kahlua is sad to be ignored. gin, muddled fresh mint from the garden, some limeade, maybe a splash of 7-up.....and its better to drink it in a large mason jelly jar with a straw that you got from in'n out. they have good straws.

I kinda thought we were over this issue  ???

Perhaps a playground incident of "telling teacher" should be be countered with a playground incident of "bullying"?

When someone offers his hand to apology to make amends, isn't it the dudely thing to take it, accept and abide?  :(
Title: Re: A topic in which to wander.

Oh come on .... clearly I'm having a joke....I even put a smiley there...I was waiting on some sort of comment from thinking dude in which there would have been a bit of banter but the next one was from DB and I responded with a joke....

FFS This used to be a place to relax and have a laugh...it's all too fucking mind your P' s and fucking Q's now.

Ok then lets have it your way. I'll take umbrage to the next thing that I feel sensitive about and I WILL attempt to find a moderator / Dudely Lama / janitor to report it to....don't make any jokes regarding penguins etc...cos there are some real serious animal rights people out there know what I mean!?

Fucking hell dudes....bullying indeed! Ok if you feel that you're being bullied Thinking dude....just type the words and I'll be out of here forever.

Fuck it man this is too much like hard work.

I used "s around the terms for a reason.  If you think Thinkingdude "ran to teacher" as you keep implying (which I'm not sure is a fair description, especially as he didn't ask for a topic lock) then I think the wording you used, be it with a smiley or not is closer to "bullying" yes.

This is about having a laugh, but the implication you make isn't much of a joke, and if it is, it's at another man's expense.  Accusations are quite a hurtful thing, especially if you add that you think the other person is being childish.  I think a more grown-up approach to bridging gaps is in order, with apologies and jokes that aren't also jibes.

I don't know where the famous "fuck it" attitude went.  There just seems to be a lot of frothing and foaming about topic locks and what someone thought someone else said, then lots of anger, and indignation.  Where's the abiding gone, the good-naturedness of human interaction and not getting too uptight? :)

If you're really accusing Thinkingdude of "running to teacher" and then joking that he was "crying to mummy", like this really is a school playground, aren't you just throwing your rattle out of the pram ? ;)

Actually Ed.

If you think that I am guilty of bullying....

Wiki Definition "Bullying is abusive treatment, the use of force or coercion to affect others,[2] particularly when habitual and involving an imbalance of power. It may involve verbal harassment, physical assault or coercion and may be directed persistently towards particular victims, perhaps on grounds of race, religion, gender, sexuality, or ability.[3][4] The "imbalance of power" may be social power and/or physical power. The victim of bullying is sometimes referred to as a "target."

If you think that describes my actions and that the "victim",who in this case is an ex US Navy veteran and should certainly be used to taking and giving flack, cannot accept or take a bit of joshing around an irrelevant subject...then I've got the whole fucking abiding thing wrong...

Fuck it! As they say in Dragons den... I'm OUT!

Peace to all the real dudes.

Yup, time to abide, dudes; lets all have an oat soda and get us all a lane. Though I have to say that all opinions have been respected here, which is a good thing.

On to bigger things of Dudeism!

Yeah dudes, let's get us a lane and roll. No time for too much debate, have the semis to make.

Besides, the Southern Cal Bowling League has informed us that its against league rules drawing a loaded weapon during league play and pull a piece out on the lane.

...another oat soda, Gary.

*rubs temples a little*

Ok, I'm sensing a pattern here...  :(

Am I really not as good at being a peacemaker and a voice of reason as I used to be, or am I coming up against people that are generally blowing their stacks?  I've never gotten angry once on this forum, and I've certainly not intended to cause any, but I was under the impression that Dudes didn't really get angry, they came together, bonded and kept on abiding  8)

There seems to be a new definition of a dude around here that they somehow just come for a laugh, can say whatever they like no matter if what they say might be insensitive, and anyone who calls them on it and asks them to step back and chill is not a real dude.  I don't think running around and getting angry is dudely, nor is discussing things without patience and rationality.

Am I really missing a trick about being a Dude, that you don't have to be nice, you just have to say "fuck it" and have a good time?  Because I'm not into selfish hedonism, and if that's how people roll around here then I guess I don't fit in.

But I don't believe that's true.  These are recent problems with people displaying tension and aggression and forgetting what it means to be a dude.  Reason, calm, chill, abiding...  There seems to be less forgive and forget and more blame, indignation and "Aww c'mon, what the fucking fuck, man?!?!?!  >:("

Am I really missing the point, and are my own words really perceived as anything but trying to be calm, empathetic and reasonable here?  :-\

If I'm not helping, someone just tell me without leaving in a storm and I'll listen.

I guess that was an unfinished thought back there of mine...

The sort of response I was hoping for when pointing out that the post didn't come across as much of a joke was something like:

"Sorry, it was meant to be a joke... Let me make it clearer."

Not:

"What the fuck?!? Fuck you!!!!"

I think exploding at people is just as much being "sensitive" as it is to be hurt be an ill-concieved choice of words.  Instead of getting back a rational response to help smooth things out, what returned was a very reactionary comment that I felt was not helpful.

Ceaser, if you're still there (and I hope you are, because I don't want another Cakebelly incident, I didn't even want the first), I'm sorry if I riled you, but you accuse me of being sensitive for looking out for the potential feelings of others, maybe you shouldn't be so sensitive to things like topic locking and other people's way of being dude.

We both crossed the line, maybe, and I don't want to anger people, but I don't expect to, because we're all dudes here.  It was wrong of me to suggest you were bullying, but I didn't intend to imply that you were, I was trying to highlight how the wording of that joke looked and came across, and I guess I failed, and for that I'm sorry.

If I lit a spark, I hold my hands up and apologise, it was certainly not on purpose, and I was certainly not expecting you to take it to heart so much.  We're both sensitive/insensitive pricks... we're humans :)

It came from patience, respect for my hair and a spiritual connection with my body.

Hair is like a waterfall, always cascading, neverending, only in slow motion.  Of course, one day your river might dry up, and as I never know when that might be, I'm trying to enjoy my hair before nature damns up my follicles :P
