Just thought I'd share with you my recipe for Wild Lettuce tincture
Harvest yourself a few (say 1 kilo) Wild Lettuce - that's Lactuca virosa or L.serriola for those of a scientific disposition.
Wash em a little.
Discard any really tough stems - they're like fucking steel and can bust a blender!
Select your strong liquor of choice (brandy or dark rum are real nice).
1 kilo of fresh lettuce to one litre of brandy or what have you.
Chop the lettuce up some (manually dude).
Blend the booze and the herb together.
Pour the mix into a jar and put a boiled rock on top to stop the lettuce coming out of the liquid and spoiling. That's right dude you get a rock from a stream and boil it to make it sterile (poor fucking rock!)
Leave to mature for 2 weeks.
Strain liquid through a muslin cloth (or a muslim cloth if you're islamically-orientated dude).
Enjoy! (recommended doseage for 'medicinal' purposes is around 2-4ml per single dose).
Thanks dude. Never heard of Lactuca virosa (Wild Lettuce) before, had to look it up. Checked out the images...sort of confusing...seems every one has a different image of what it looks like. A few look just like dandelion.
We got lots of dandelion here...will dandelion work dude? 8)
Dandelion will make you pee the bed man! ;)
Pees dudes. ;)

Dandelion is great for de-toxing. The root sorts out the liver and the leaves work on the kidneys.
Wild lettuce though is a whole different thing. Its also called 'prickly lettuce' because it has pronounced spines in the middle of the underside of the leaf and on the stems. It grows tall (up to 3 metres).Wild lettuce rotates its leaves during the day so as to always present the minimum surface area to the sun.
If anyone can tell me how to get a photo into the bottom of my posts I'll upload a picture of a monster lettuce that has decided to grow in my yard.

That's wild dude. Thanks for the help. I'm just charging the batteries for my camera.
Unfortunately my youngest son, Macys-car-park Rockbury decided to do a little 'gardening' this morning and chopped right through my specimen lettuce. I still have the two pieces (although the chopped off bit is kinda wilted) so I'm going to find some duct tape to do a re-enactment.
cckeiser's picture showing classic spine formation and leaf-twist 10/10 for complexity and style dude.

Did a pretty good job of hiding there I reackon, but if you look carefully you can just make out a dude in the undergrowth.
That's no dandelion!
Shit dude! Just showed this picture to my special lady. She took a look and said "Wait a minute..." next thing I know she's coming in the back door with a 3 foot plant that looks exactly like that one dude. Seems it's growing wild all along our neighbors fence line.
Sooo...can you smoke it dude? ??? ;D
I never used it for 'recreational' purposes. I have taken it to relax in times of extreme stress. So I use an alcoholic tincture.
But yes, I believe it can be smoked. There is some info on http://www.wildlettuce.com/
Before you harvest it check a botanical description on-line or from a good field guide to make sure you have the right plant.
