Title: What are your personal "whale songs"?
Post by: Jammberry on June 16, 2011, 01:58:18 AM
We all know the Dude like to relax to music made by whales, but what do you guys listen to when you take 'er easy?

When I'm in the mood for some serious relaxing, I like to put on Royksopp's Melody AM. It's pretty damn relaxing.

A friend recently showed me Astral Voyager by Tangerine Dream and I really liked it. I'm going to have to listen to more of their stuff.

I do actually like whales songs, but find great peace in Gregorian Chant (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AiWbg2bmZ_A)and Plain Chant (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sYO2NPOHf0w).

Yes I know a bit anomalous for a Pagan but it's the sound that appeals to me.

Oh and none of the bloody disco trance re-mix shite (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LMyQfJ9C7IA) remix style.

Hey man, to each his own. I had a history teacher who played that stuff during "homework days" in class. It never turned out well because most of class, teacher included, fell asleep. That stuff is pretty relaxing man

I have no trouble falling asleep. It's staying awake that I find challenging.

This would probably strike a lot of people as weird, but I'm REALLY into traditional vocal pop, swing, and big band from the '40s, '50s, and '60s.  Bobby Darin, Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, Johnnie Ray, Frankie Laine, etc.  It's button-down, lushly-orchestrated, and about as far from what most people would consider good stoner music as it gets.  But I'm an absolute sucker for it, and I don't even know why (I think it's the voices...they're like buttah!)

This was the exact answer I was getting ready to put.  When I need to relax, it's Frank and Dean that get play time.

I listen to a random volume of Cafe del Mar, which is a chillout/ambient collection put out by a group of folks in Ibiza. Some of it is more like classical music, some of it is more techno-y, but for the most part it's far fucking out and very relaxing.

Also a little Bill Withers:

Enigma 'Return To Innocence'

What is really funny about it is that for some reason I confused the vocalise here with
Rednex 'Spirit Of The Hawk'

Wojciech Kilar 'Vocalise' (Theme From The Ninth Gate)
