I don't think he did. I don't remember seeing it around in any of the shots of the living room, but I don't think it'd be his style anyway. I don't think he'd want that kind of negativity. My humble opinion of course.
When the dude returns home from Malibu we see TV set on a small table in front of the fireplace. A bowling ball protrudes from the screen.
I would expect to see PBS, local news, cartoons, westerns... sometimes just static with the volume down. I doubt he would have spent much time watching the tube. But he wouldn't have gone to the trouble to boycott it on moral grounds. Life's too short.
This dude has a TV but no cable or satellite. Just a PS3 for watching movies and occasionally playing a game.

Point of order re: Andy's post. This movie was made and released in...mid '90s somewhere...I don't think there was a Playstation 3...or a 2 or a 1 for that matter.

It was shot in 97 but was supposed to have taken place in 91, and I wager, 92.

the more times i've watched TBL and lived my own life as a 'duder', it becomes increasingly clear that we have our dark sides, and perhaps even greater capacity for outbursts of short controlled emotional exchanges that linger on the 'Walter' side of the fence than someone who remains completely neutral or resides within the television rather than a dudely viewer (if you know what I mean).
Therefore it can only be concluded that The Dude, in an act of rebelious rejection of fascism threw his golf ball into the TV set as a symbol of his freedom.

Exactly my thoughts Koogs....I was working on some of the most advanced Fighter Plane technology at the time and we didn't even have a laptop! I had an Amiga at home I think....maybe with a cassette for the programmes...?

You would spend an hour just trying to get online, but once you were on it was worth it. Actually, these days the inter-web is rather boring, compared to the originally simple style.
I would give anything to go back to Pop Ups, and get rid of facebook and marketing sharing.

There are a few TV shows I genuinely enjoy (History Channel stuff and Adult Swim mostly), but I find less and less justification to buy expensive cable or satellite service when you can usually find those shows online now.
