Title: The Game of Thrones thread
Post by: Rev. Gary (revgms) on April 22, 2011, 12:47:26 PM
So HBO has the Game of Thrones series now, I haven't read the books, but the wife has, she said it will be awesome. So far not too bad, plenty of blood and ass, so there's that. IO think I might keep watching it with her.

She kept telling me there is some sort of enlightened philosophy behind it, including a charactor or something that is cool and enlightened, dunno, look forward to seeing where it goes.

Any Dudes into this, if so......

discuss.

It has been on my (unwritten) reading list for years; I told myself that I wouldn't start the series until I had acquired all the books. Funnily enough I got the complete (ebook) set the week before last but then they started running trailers for the show on HBO so I held off reading anything.

I don't know how it compares to the books (Busmum has read 'em and she said so far it is a pretty good adaptation) but I was pleasantly entertained - not sure about the ever-so-wistful actress who plays the exiled Princess (strategically married off), time will tell is she's there as just eye candy or she can really act   - but generally some good performances, all round. Nice to see Sean Penn again. Like the settings, like the effort put into detail & accents (makes a nice change) - we'll see how we go.

Yeah Nurse Jackie and The United States of Tara as well. We watch Breaking Bad too.
Sorry Six Feet Under and The Wire ended, but there is only so much they can do with them...and they did it so well.
Looking forward to Treme and Boardwalk Empire. We do not get hbo or showtime but rent them on dvd. We watch the whole season in like 3 days!

the new season of tara sucks in my humble opinion, so very annoying.
the new series thats hot right now on shotime is 'the borgia's' with jeremy irons.
also, hbo's 'rome' was awesome!

Yeah, a little less beating up paparazzi, little more Boromir.

So far, I have to give this show a thumbs-up.  I kinda like the Rob Zombie guy with the whole goth Mongol thing going on there.  And the king is great, but my favorite characters so far have to be the dogs.

WHO's a good doggie bite the fuck out of that little inbred turd whiny twat? YOU are! Yes you ARE!

I know this is an old topic, dudes, but I enjoyed the first season. I've also read all the books up to the most current one, A Dance with Dragons.

The books are pretty damn good.

Just finished watching all ten episodes of Game of Thrones; great story, some zesty coitus, great production and now waiting for HBO to do the next two books. Who will win the civil war? Will they expose that brat blond haired kid who stole the throne? Will the dead king's wife get whats coming to her?

..........did I mention zesty coitus?

I have missed this completely here in the UK (I'm sure some nice TV exec will repeat it for me), but Rev Klaus absolutely swears by it. For him to recommend anything on TV is quite a recommendation (he doesn't really watch the thing most of the time).

I'm bumping this thread cos I can't find any more references on the search engine.

Just watched the whole three series over a 3 week period with my son. To say I am gobsmacked is not enough...I feel I have been wrapped around a piece of bait which I swallowed and then been snagged in the throat landed and gutted...my eyeballs are going to be removed next..I'm not feeling the pain now but the trepidation is there!

I'd never heard of the books...so it passed me. I don't watch tv so it passed me. Luckily I have a son who is knows what I may like! :)

If you have tv prejudices (as I do) or pre conceived ideas (as I did) or think you won't be bothered/hooked (as I did) Please think again!

Seriously: This is one of the best things I have ever witnessed on TV. It is absolutely ground breaking. Writing , screenplay, direction, scenery, CGI, acting, suspense, drama. Whichever order you put them. It has it all.

If you have a glance then you'll maybe see why I'm not trying to quantify or justify my statements.

Have a look dudes you won't be disappointed.

Cool series, and well produced; but holy shit, its violent! Although, lots of well shaped female forms all over it, too.

Movies are shit now, all produced for the lowest common denominator, but Game of Thrones, The Walking Dead and the Newsroom are part of what is making this the golden age of television.

New member checking in...

I've read the books, and watched the show.  The show is great, but the books are better.  The show is taking liberties and rearranging the events for the "television" format.  Big Example... everything in season 3 regarding Theon actually occurs in book 5.

There are 2 books left that George R.R. Martin has not even written yet.  So, there are big things that happen in book 5, but still even bigger questions left open.  He has given no completion date for either of the final 2 books.

I watched the TV show, and I liked it so much, I learned the Dothraki language (and translated the dictionnary in french).
I tried to read the books, but got stuck halfway through the first one. Can't help it, I can'tfinish it (bores me). And Conan from 1932-1934 keeps calling me for action when I read ASOIAF.

They lack of Dudeism in this Esteros world. Imagine Ned Stark answering to Jeoffrey "Take it easy Dude."

:-D
