Just wondering if anyone has ever seen or heard of Brandt having a last name, in any of the versions of the screenplay, etc.

Thankee.

The only two theories I have heard is that it might be "LaJoya." "Brandt LaJoya." The theory is that the Big Lebowski's trophy wife, "Bunny Lebowski" borrowed Brandt's last name of "LaJoya" and used it for her porn actress alter ego, "Bunny LaJoya."

The other theory I have seen around is that he, Brandt, is related to the Big Lebowski and his last name is also Lebowski; "Brandt Lebowski." This theory makes more sense as Brandt could be a relative working for the Big Lebowski.

Amazing what a flashback will reveal.   ;D

I thought Brandt was his last name.

Much in the British tradition of calling your butler by their last name.

As in Hudson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Angus_Hudson) in Upstairs Downstairs whose name was Angus Hudson, even though almost every other member of staff was known by their first name he was known by his last.

Yeah, that's a good one too. A worthy theory, m5.

la joya means "the jewel" in spanish. not sure if that helps make sense of her last name.

wonder if there's any connection with brandt and "branded", the TV show which arthur digby sellers wrote (bulk of the series, not exactly a lightweight). probably not.

Hudson??? Fucking-a, meekon, fucking-a - I had completely forgotten about that TV-series.
It was on German television, too. "Das Haus am Eaton-Place" was its German title (The House at Eaton Place). That must have been in the 70s.... a BBC production?  ;D

As for Brandt, yeah, that is a not unusual German family name.
As in "Willy Brandt", who was our prime minister (Bundeskanzler) in the early 70s, a positively memorable one, IMHO.

Again, I don't think it is co-incidence that the lackey is wearing a German name in a CB movie.
By the way, Willy Brandt was not like this, just in case somebody might want to know.

Faithfully BE

Hudson:

...and it was a BBC production. So we can close the file on this one?

Actually, the Dali Llama gave me my last name after I caddied (luper) for  him and  I thought he was going to stiff me, so I said, Hey  Llaaama,  you know, how about a little somethin' you know for  the  effort. And he said,  "oh no my son, there will be  no money, but on your deathbed you will receive  your last name.  So I got that goin' for me, which is nice. It's ONLY Brandt, (for now) at Mr. Lebowski's office.
