OK, dudes, I have setup this thread (a sticky) as a place to exchange ideas on dealing with the human paraquat nihilist spammers who have recently been pissing on our rug.
Also, I hope this will be "command central" so to speak (AKA, The Dudes's Pad) for organizing the defense of the the forum. These strumpets, these whores, are going down. They have entered a world of pain...A WORLD OF PAIN.
Just a few minutes ago I aced about 9 more spam threads. War is declared on these nazi bastards, and obviously these undudes are not golfers, they have no frame of reference. This is not Nam, those are the fucking rules and these crazy fucks are going to mark it zero. Across this line...THEY DO NOT!
** OK, off my soap box and onward...........

Please use this thread to offer ideas, express concerns, post updates, post alerts and organize the defense of the realm.
Also; who is going to do what and how? More mods are watching, but it might take more such as new defense features added to the forum, etc. What will work, what won't? Anyone's opinion, is like your opinion man, and valuable.
The ForumDude has recruited a few new mods and I have unofficially called them the "Dudeism Troll Patrol" or "DTP." :) (A division of Sobchak Security.)
As a close friend of mine once said "don't complain, ORGANIZE!" Fucking eh! Dudes, this is where we organize what happens when they fuck a forum in the ass!
Well, Dude - my moderator powers are only executable on the new Dudeku threads; so, my help - in deletion - will be limited. I liked your idea of reviewing new members first posts before you allow them full forum status. I think M5 is going to be having a look at things - he might come up with something. If I have any ideas I'll be sure to pass them along. Good work on the spam-killing - go DTP!
I think it was mentioned before, but using captcha for registration would be a good start. Then start swinging the ISP ban hammer for any current or human paraquats. That, and then dividing mods to watch certain forums or sections, that way they can focus their powers like Walter did in "Nam.
i'm pretty sure there already is a captcha registration. the problem is that these are real people who get paid in affiliate payments for putting up links on forums. and though i'd been banning their ips it seems like they have some sort of dynamic ip generator and use various ips. not sure how that works. the thing is that i have a great spam blocker installed (akismet) but it seems to be installed improperly and uninstalling and reinstalling seems to have no effect.
all in all i'd like to move the entire forum to an integrated forum either at dudeism.com (wordpress) or put it into the forthcoming "the rug" which will be a dudeist social network like facebook, complete with all sorts of features like searchable maps and classifieds and friending and forums and all that stuff. hope to have that up in the next two months. on vacation at the moment so can't do much.
FUCKIN' A! Woo-hoo! A big brass ball of kudos to you (and your team) for making that happen; very cool news. If the latest Forum Folly comes off (Dude Annual) then any revenue generated can perhaps go to any costs incurred setting The Rug up, thanks DL, nice one, man. ;D
glad you're digging the rug idea. check out www.therug.org to see what kind of stuff will be available. but don't bother posting anything or what have you as it's only a sandbox at the moment. everything will be deleted at some point - just testing the software and playing with templates. you can switch templates by clicking on the picture of the palette in the menu bar - there's even one that mimics facebook which we might use but only after changing the colors.
as you can see, anyone can start their own blog and post photos and write articles etc etc. there will be many more features as well which aren't yet installed.
at some point i'll put up a forum topic here for you guys to suggest functionality. cheers dudes! our fucking troubles are over. hopefully!

I see there's a banner adv on the rug. Will it be adv. supported? Not that I mind that much, after all you gotta feed the monkey.

Sorry digitalbuddha but I missed their spam and now do not know who the spammers are and I can't block them. Next time if you hit the "notify" button either forumdude or I can kick the paraquats out of our beach community for good...or at least till they change their membership.
Put yer foot up their pipe.
Ping em to death!
Digital Napalm.
probably we'll only have our own dudeism-related ads (think of them more as notifications?). having third party ads would probably be very undude. we do have to feed the monkey, but not with our dudeist souls!
Dudes, have to say; fabulous stuff here. Sounds like some cool and great new shit is coming to light! Fucking eh!

No worries, dude. I just hit the delete button, stuck a piece up their ass until it went "click," and poof!!; human paraquat heads rolled! Mark it zero for their spam.
Man, that rug website really ties the internet together!
I noticed it was a .org address too, which is fuckin' interesting.
Also, forumdude, noticed you're on vacation (lucky). Does that mean if I ordered something from the store, I should probably chill for a while?
wanted the .com address but it'd been taken. the company wants like 30,000 bucks for it. fucking fascists. but org is pretty good. wonderful suffix.
ironically i'm on vacation in LA from my home in thailand. that's pretty bass ackwards, innit?
orders are fulfilled by my right hand order fulfillment dude, rev. philanthropotomus, so it's business as usual if you want to order something.

...and though i'd been banning their ips it seems like they have some sort of dynamic ip generator and use various ips. not sure how that works...
Unfortunately many ISP's (Internet Service Providers, and companies now) use DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) rather than fixed IP. Which means every time someone logs on they can have a different IP. It's easier for admins because all you do is manage a range of IP's and users PC's pick the next off the stack. We tend to only use fixed IP's for servers now. So unless you know the IP range their provider is using you cant really block individual IP's.

Whoa..That's a lot of money for something that seems...well...well....imaginary? I don't want to get all deep and everything, but it's not like it's an object that you can hold in your hand. And it's not like .com is rare and they aren't making any more.
I need to not post on Mondays.
OH MAN! I just realized it's Wednesday.

You should see the prices of a ".tv", Tuvalu (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuvalu) sold the rights a few years ago, and made quite a bit of cash from it.

No indeed, and dude, "Wednesday" is not the preferred nomenclature; hump day, please. ;D
A Dudeism Troll Patrol report................
OK, dudes, just filing a DTP report here.
RE.: Troll and spam extermination
DATE: 5:13 AM 1/22/2011
* Over the last 3 weeks I have, not including cckeiser dude's kills, aced about 25 spam posts. The usual shit; tennis shoe ads, porno, the odd get rich program bullshit, make my johnson bigger pills, etc., and unless I'm not seeing the shit cc has put in a world of pain and deleted, it seems that we are not being pissed on as much as we were a few weeks ago.
That, of course, doesn't mean these nihilists bastards aren't going to come back, so vigilance is called for. Across this line, THEY DO NOT!
* A concern arose about a member called 'fishex99;" a question of "is it a real dude or a trolling spammer?" So far his posts are little more than crap like "thank you posting this" or "thank you for posting that" in reply to other dudes's posts. That is about all that gets posted by fishex99. See - http://dudeism.com/smf/index.php?topic=1606.msg15436;topicseen#msg15436
The concern is that he (or she) has 3 links to websites selling tropical fish. cckeiser dude decided to PM him/her and ask the dude to remove the links in his signature that are really just ads. Time will tell what he/she does. I'm guessing that if they are not removed, they will be removed and "fishex99" might be banned as a spammer.
* Any other dude want to add or bring some new shit to light, fucking eh, please do, mang.
OK, dudes, that's it for now.
Abide
There is no reply from fishex99 to my pm, but the links are in his/her signature and I am loth to just ban him/her for that. Like dude...I have a link in my signature too. I can remove the links from fishex99's signature, but I would prefer to tread very lightly in that regard and not just go willy-nilly deleting, changing or banning anyone unless they prove themselves a real pain in the ass.
So far I don't see fishex99 as such. Just an odd post here and there with his fishy links in his signature that are not really harmful.
Just wish the dude would post something worthy for a change.
CC- about the link in your sig, is that something you support or is it your own work? I saw one of the stickers yesterday at a restaurant here in St.Louis, I managed to snap a camera phone pic but haven't uploaded it yet

Yeah, Do No Harm was started by Clyde and myself. Read the "In The News" page on the web site to see how it all got started.
But actually all I did was write an essay, it's really mostly Clyde who turned it into a "movement". It's his web site and he's the one with all the free stuff. I try to spread the message on the internet. Try to take it beyond the choir, like here on Dudeism. I think Dudeism and Do No Harm is a pretty good fit. If you're doing no harm you're abiding. If you're abiding...you're doing no harm! :)

Yeah, IMHO letting fish dude abide is cool. Sometimes to solve troll or spamming problems mods on other forums I've seen get ban crazy and take the axe to people who are not really fucking with them. So we have to be liberal I would say. There isn't a problem here, the only assholes to get nailed have been legit spammer.
Have to say though, that the link in your signature is not spam or trying to sell some shit, and I don't think that a link in a dude's signature has to directly relate to TBL for sure.
Just aced this asshole. Obviously he's not a golfer and has no frame of reference here.............

Another dipshit with a nine towed women.
Ok dudes, forumdudes fix of not allowing any new member to post links looks like it's working. We just had 2 new members with spam links in their signature get blocked from posting. Actually I think it was the same spammer trying to post to the board with a different name. Both members had the same spam links. They were trying to sell watches and shoes dude! 8)
