Brother Erwin

I sent forumdude an email yesterday to block this human paraquat, but ollie doesn't seem to be in.
All I can do is delete post, I cannot block a memeber from posting.
That why we need to have digitalbuddha made the membership moderator!
The sooner the better!

Are you still deleting stuff, like is he still doing it?

I really do not dig his style, most uncivilized.

Thanks a lot, CCK, for all your efforts! Now this place looks again like nice, quiet beach community.

Yeah, I was thinking that each new member would have his or her first post held in limbo for a mod to check it out first. By "limbo" I mean it would not appear on the forum until reviewed. If it's fucking spam, the "new member" get's the axe and their IP, for what's its worth, is blocked.

If the new member's first post is legit, they are sent an email telling them that they are cool and can post, and their first post is released and made viewable like any other post.

If their post does not cut the mustard and is obvious spam they are sent an email telling them (if it even is a real email address) to fuck off, Da Fino! Not that it would do much good, but it did seem the dude like thing to do anyhow.

Even with keeping my mind limber and calling up a flashback or two, I can't think of any better way to stop these human paraquats from pissing on our beach community. Any dudes have any other ideas?

One other idea I had (maybe brought on by a strict drug regiment) is the method of having new dudes (during sign-up) have to type in one of those weird looking security codes that bots can't read. The... YHH3abcFT  ...codes. But that would only stop a bot as far as I know. A human spammer could get past that like anyone could.

CAPTCHA, it works on bots but it does help with human spammers because they usually don't bother with places that have those.  It's like putting a sign out it front of your house that says you have an alarm even if you don't.  It weeds out all but the most determined.  Good idea. : )

I dig the idea of a double-barreled thing: First mail checked by a mod plus the security code.

Also, dudes, this plan's beauty lies in its simplicity. It should work like Swiss fucking watch!

sorry fellas. i was offline for two days when disaster struck. i've been trying to figure out a way to increase my spam protection and have added several mods but there's some sort of malfunction going on with akismet (spam protection module) and it's not working like it should.

ideally i'd like to get the forum better integrated with the main site. thinking about using social networking software like boonex. i've secured the services of a programmer and will be working with him when i get back to thailand at the end of the month.

if any of you long timers would like to take a crack and see what's wrong with this installation i'd be happy to make you administrators and give you ftp access. anybody with the know how and elbow grease and dudeist loyalty who'd like to take that hill?

I can have a look if you want but it would mean learning a new piece of software.

Have you got examples of the config files and settings I can look at?

Not just ftp, don't you remote admin as well?

Perhaps we can discuss this via e-mail.
