Title: my first wedding
Post by: terrorbyt3 on November 13, 2010, 11:08:24 PM
I'm Dan, and I've been a dudeist for my whole life, but I didn't know it until two years ago. Today I officiated the wedding of my two good friends, and it went swimmingly.  It was probably the coolest thing I've done ever.  I really just abided with what the couple wanted, read the speech we prepared together, and I effing nailed it.  Tears everywhere.  Even the groom shed a few, man.  The couple aren't religious people, and I'm cool with that, so it was all about true love and commmitment, some real beautiful stuff.  I'm sitting here at the reception right now, the bride is about to throw the boquet, and its all real classy.  I think the most akward thing about the whole process has been all the family members coming up to congratulate me on a great speech and then asking what my religion is. The conversations have involved lots of blank stares and confused looks.  But all in all, its been a great experience.  I look forward to my next wedding.

That wedding really tied the knot together, did it not?

how about a copy of the speech you used as an example.

So far I've blessed a van (which was going to do the Dakar Rally), and read at my stepfathers Cremation, oh and plus a couple of pagan meetings.

It would just be interesting to see how other dudes handle the process, because like many of you I do get asked to preside over ceremonies occasionally, and despite the legal aspect (here in the UK you can lead a ceremony but need certain certificates to actually run it legally).

Oh and BTW congrats to you and the happy couple.

I want to do one soon too, I'll add in my own Shamanic Dudeist spin to it. Especially if it's a pagan wedding. I know a lot of pagans and I go to a lot of Sabbats.

Congrats dude! I'm glad it went smooth for you!
