The dude's talent should take him (or her in the case of a dudette) to the semis, man. That is some cool shit. Looking at his stuff, I was wondering what a computer animated version of the further adventures of the Big Lebowski would be like? Or even the Little Lebowski?
8) S'funny, mang - I was thinking the very same thing, today - wondering what an animated Little Lebowski would look like (it's far beyond my paltry slide-show abilities - and software. I think I shall slow down - or change tack - on those;- getting a bit dull using all the same images.). Any Dudes up for the challenge?

An achievement on the Little Lebowski animation would be totally cool indeed. Yeah, dudes, anyone on the bowling team up to it?
I find this guy (Graham Hancock) F'N interesting (couldn't find the exact vid I wanted but this will lead into other stuff). I can highly recommend any of his books but most especially " Supernatural."

There's a number of variations on this particular story, often changing the participants (one of Corwley's alleged sons includes Crowley in the ceremony). Depending on who is telling the tale depends on which famous witch was doing what.
But a very good find all the same.
8) Yeah, not sure where I first heard about the tale(s): several sources - I know that I read something about it in a book by one of Crowley's (alleged) sons and probably elsewhere, too. There may have even been a TV documentary (British) some years ago.
8) For a Dudely literary diversion you might like to dip into some Jeff Noon (I haven't read "Needle in the Groove" or beyond it but can highly recommend "Vurt"). A cross-genre (near future), drug-juiced, kaleidoscopic, ride through Manchester (UK) - well, a Manchester that might one day be. Also enjoyed "Pollen", "Automated Alice" and "Pixel Juice". Hey guys.....
I just haven't had the get up and go to get involved in the boards for a few months now...new gf...job and other life issues seem to be taking up all my time...
However! I've been reading this new board and have spotted references to Graham Hancock and New void fishes, Banksy and other stuff in which I am quite knowledgeable in!
We dudes seem to have a lot more in common than mere religion! :)
Try Earthfiles.com for updates on all the high strangeness that happens around our planet.
I can't discuss this shit with my friends or colleagues as they all deem me too "out there" so would welcome some decent discussion either on here or pm or email.
I find Hancock's website forums far too clique to post much on there....here I am with my peers man (not rug pee-ers either!)

When I read this book, I was expecting to relate to the character myself. However, It's been a few years since I've purused the pages of this prize winner, but I do remember Ignacious being nothing like me.
I think I read somewhere that a true lazy man stays fit so that it's easier for him to move to the next couch when he get's kicked out.
Ignacious was not so much a lazy man, but a sloth. And his world view kinda clashed with mine anyway. But I probably would have eaten a few hot dogs from my own vending cart as well.

I did like confederacy of dunces, but it wasn't something that just blew my mind. I'm more of a vonnegut fan, and enjoy mystery novels. If it's not action and mystery, its things that make me question reality. Plus it didnt help i kept thinking about the author the whole time i read the book, he was a suicid, and I tend to dwell on things like that. He only wrote one other book when he was a teenager.
Yeah, it's a bloody tragedy about his suicide - leaves one with many "if onlys' and "what ifs"; I still think it would help pull any Dude's bookshelf together. Yeh thanks for putting a downer on my Friday night Cake (;D).
I saw the reasoning in the USA insisting part of the payback for them financing the end of WWII was the deconstruction of Europe's imperial past by fascist nations like Great Britain being forced to give back the countries they had exploited for so long.
What disappoints me is the ease with which the same USA slid so easily into doing exactly what it had abhorred in it's European Ex-Masters.
I sincerely await the fall of capitalism (as nearly happened with the recent banking crisis), but with the complete failure of the Soviet and Chinese systems to implement a workable alternative I worry what comes next.

The Earth is abundant with resources; rationing resources with monetary methods is irrelevant and counterproductive to the well-being of people. Today we have highly advanced technologies. But our social and economic system has not kept pace with our technological capabilities which could easily create a world of abundance free of servitude and debt for all. This could be accomplished by implementing a global resource-based economy.
Simply stated, a resource-based economy uses resources directly rather than through the interface of money, and provides an equitable distribution of goods and services in a humane and efficient manner for the entire population. It is a system in which goods and services are available without the use of money, credit, barter, or any other form of debt or servitude. A resource-based economy uses resources to enhance the lives of the total population. In an economy based on rationally used resources rather than on money (which is an extra degree of separation from the things needed), we can easily produce the necessities of life and provide a high standard of living for all.
To better understand a resource-based economy consider this: if all the money in the world suddenly disappeared, but topsoil, factories, and other resources were left intact, we could build anything we chose to build and fulfill any human need. It is not money that people need, but access to the necessities of life without the interface of a government bureaucracy or any other agency. In a resource-based economy money is irrelevant. What?s required are resources, manufacturing, and distribution of the products.
A resource-based economy would use technology to compensate for scarce resources, and would utilize renewable sources of energy. It would computerize and automate manufacturing and inventory, and design safe energy-efficient cities with universal health care and a relevant education. It would encourage the evolution of a new incentive system based on human and environmental concerns.

Fascist capitalists use money to control wealth and resources. If you control the flow and possession of pieces of paper we call "money," you control all of the wealth...raw materials, skill, knowledge, land, means of production and transportation.
You don't need to control of of the those things directly, you simply control the controlling factor called "money."
Money, as we know it, is bullshit pieces of worthless paper. The public is fooled into believing that if they don't have "money" they can't have anything else. No "money," = no land, no food, no medicine, no clothes, no shelter that we (the fascist capitalists), those who control the pieces of paper, control.
Those who own the pieces of paper dictate how much of the pieces of paper you will have to work for and how much you will have to give back to get land, food, medicine, clothes, and shelter.
Amazing how worthless pieces of paper can be used to control the ignorant.
Wouldn't it be interesting if the people simply told those who own barrels of "money" that "we no longer recognize your worthless pieces of paper as a controlling factor of land, raw material, means of production, transportation, food, medicine, clothes, and shelter and therefore will take what we need and want anytime we want or need it." In short...FUCK YOU, YOU CONTROL NOTHING.
Result; the fascist capitalists would be broken.......and broke.

What I don't understand, and please forgive me in this difference of opinion, as it is just an opinion of a difference of understanding. Is that how can the same people in journalism, and in general, bash wikipedia for being unreliable, and yet embrace wikileaks so warmly? Numerous journalist sites are now making wikileaks VERY popular. But it's still common to hear how inaccurate and bogus anything on wikipedia is, even though it's the same concept.
Information that isn't tied to a 'official standardized source'
im for wikipedia, in fact, i think text books and most universities have some very narrow minded and often rigid material that can be easily described as just as unofficial.
Information is easy to manipulate.
i feel even worse for china.
im optimistic things will change for the better.
8) Journalism is a funny thing - what is news and what is news-worthy? As you know, a handful of people control the media; they tell us what the news is, what is important to our society, etc. They sell-tell us what is funny, what is fashionable what is worthy of our concern . . well, you get the air-brushed picture. They are the 'standardized source'. I don't have anything against Wikipedia I use it a lot - I think a lot of people may be down on it because it does undermine the text book/student books scam you got going over here (fucking outrageous that a text book can frequently cost 200 plus bucks here - and the universities get a back-hander if they push the latest edition - which is bullshit). Fuck it, anyway.
I hear a a lot of media-folk refer to themselves as 'Journalists' these days - nothing could be further from the truth. Most are mere corporate propagandists and nothing more. We tend not to hear from the real Journalists - the ones who are left - because they are generally not employed by the big corporations. When big business call the shots, when the news is - to all intents and purposes - censored so heavily that it can't be called anything else BUT propaganda then those few individuals who put their heads above the parapets by attempting to tell the truth - or report a version of the truth that differs from the acceptable hymn sheet (so to speak) - should be supported (even if we don't agree with what they are saying).
The fuckers have their hands in everything, the fuckers will not stop - wikileaks may churn out crap, it is inevitable that they should; but not all of it is crap, it's shit we need to know.
Celebrate the Journos while we can before they are killed (the smears have already begun) - it is the stance they are taking more than what is reported. They are risking their lives, right now - that shit just ain't right.
Wikipedia is a great resource - here's a link to a worthy fuckin' Journalist Dude (well worth reading any of his books) . . just so we can remind ourselves of how it used to be, how it should be. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Pilger (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Pilger)
Anyway, Dude - don't apologize for having a different opinion (or understanding) - fuck that, it's your right. It ain't really different, anyway, but it was a rather dramatic way, I thought, to close my post - fuckin' spoilt it now ;D

I wonder at the fact that the founder of Wikileaks is suddenly wanted for "Sexual Crimes" in Switzerland, especially reading in your quoted article that "US intelligence intends to "fatally marginalise" Wikileaks."

Also I like the fact you quote Orwell here. In 1984 Winston Smith himself works for the Ministry Of Truth where he removes "Un-persons" from historical documents so the record of their existence is eradicated.

This is NOT from wikileaks....and is just some made up nonsense.
CERN and the Hadron collider have absolutely nothing to do with this "spiral" The Hadron collider seems to get a lot of bad press...well bad science, from people who understand absolutely fuck all about the machine....if you want information on what it can actually do...go here: http://lhc.web.cern.ch/lhc/
It is an open site and shows the raw data in real time...for those who can bother to try and understand it.
In actual fact the spiral was found to be a Rusian Bulava intercontinental ballistic missile. which was test fired from a submarine in the White sea. See Here:

There are enough real mysteries and possible conspiracies out there...crop circles, water circles, beaching whales, 911 (the pentagon plane) that we don't need to go looking for quite obviously made up non scientific junk....
Rant over....

Not sure why you, as you put it, 'ranted' about it but the issue is far from explained; I recall clipping it for another site (when the story first broke) and then clipping the follow-up 'explanation'. It could be the case that the official explanation is the genuine one (stranger things have happened) but it isn't according to the eye witnesses (or some of them). One Dude felt insulted enough to make his own animated video on what he saw. I just thought it was interesting to have (I'll compromise, here) further (alleged) information on it. It should have been put on my other site, though, for continuity (well, kind of a continuity - it was ages ago . . in my head). And of course, some people claim that there were two events.
No one here, on the forum, as far as I know - is anti CERN (least of all me); it is true that it gets a lot of bad press and people are understandably nervous about it.
"Non-scientific" junk: all the mysteries that you allude to are - at the moment - in the non-scientific realm. Well, mostly. Not quite sure what you mean, here. A phenomenon/anomally is a mystery to science until science finds a reason for it. To a lot of people (religious, mystics, shamen etc) it is the scientific discipline that has to catch up; just because something isn't proven doesn't mean it ain't there. Likewise just because something isn't written down on an 'open' site or an open news channel (wasn't aware that the latter still existed - I hope you don' take what the right-wing reactionary Daily Mail reports as gospel . . they print some nice pictures, though) doesn't mean it is the truth OR a lie.
Equally, just because I post something here doesn't necessarily mean that I agree/disagree with all or any of the elements related to the post. That it prompts a discussion or a response - which it has - is cool though.
When a phenomenon presents itself to so many witnesses and the official explanation does not satisfy (some of the witnesses) and they persist in seeking more information . . well, that is a good thing. As Michael Moore said, "we live in fictitious times, my friends". Never stop questioning.
As to the Whales beaching: sonar from human vessels seems to be the chief suspect, at the moment. Crop circles (largely) man-made; some MAY not be . . we'll have to wait and see. Latest theory that seems to be creating excitement is the 'plasma' from space (type in plasma crop circles - you may get something). Theories, theories, funny things. Yes, peace, indeed. Have a great weekend, Dude ;D

@ CC - good one, shall have to file that away
@CD - You know f'n what Dude, you were right to call me on it; on reflection it was a shabby post (more so than usual for me). I should be a little more careful - especially with the wikileaks saga rolling, at the moment. One thing the world doesn't need is another forum filled with wild accusations. I should have checked the source. At the time I was having a kind of posting fit: clipping stuff from one site to put on another, sending people the Assange wanted poster, and trying to drum up trade for the Abideist channel (incidentally, you appear in the Winter Dude Festival one). I sent the wrong link to several people and got my ear bent again by a friend who is an amateur physicist (I'll include some of the post - as a kind of penance . . a Dude hair-shirt, if you will ;D). As I said, never stop questioning, especially other Dudes . . if we can't do that here, then what's the effing point (there's only a handful of us anyway, mang). So, kudos to you, no harm, no foul, abide.
"Ah, the doomsdayers are still at it I see - grabbing at straws, making mountains of molehills - the sky is falling, the sky is falling. Those of us with an interest in space exploration who've been watching every piece of fim or video about the space program (including its failures) from its inception to present day that they could find in their 43-year life as well as those of us who've been in company with rocket and fireworks enthusiasts (some of them educated chemists, as you'd expect) whose lives were consumed with propulsion and explosion - we strange creatures can immediately determine that the debris trails (and, yes, there are two... of varying colors) clearly indicate a self-propelled projectile malfunctioning. The white spiral is the side-venting malfunction. Whites and yellows are most common in propulsion fuels - they indicate the cheaper (more affordable) propulsion agents. The kicker is the blue-ish propulsion trail. There are few chemicals that yield a blue color when burned. They're not cheap nor easily had by enthusiasts or even professionals - that's why you don't see a notable ratio of blue in fireworks displays, not even the really big municipal variety displays. It's just plain expensive and not necessarily easy to work with (as a chemist)."
part two (hair shirt):
"Actually, what the spiral shows to anyone the least in the know (that would be folks like me) is that this projectile (missile, rocket or what have you that belonged to the Russians, the Knights Templar or Bugs Bunny) was not only costly but also meant to be really, really fast. Again, it's the blue stuff that was clearly intended to be mixed with the white, apparently on board during flight rather than premixed. If it burns blue, it burns up superfast, a lot faster than the white stuff, and superhot. (The blue shit's also more dangerous to work with - a bit complicated and unleashes a LOT of energy, the kind that even in a small firework can take off a couple of fingers and cripple a hand for life - a very few were willing to work with blue.) That would explain why it might need to be "fed" to the fuel mixture during flight rather than premixed, especially if you're dealing with any notable quantity of the stuff. It would have been an additional catalyst rather than a fuel base - the "umph". It would also explain why a malfunction of such a design would yield two separate yet simultaneous burns that, oddly enough, burn out at different times (only further evidence). The blue burned out a little before the white. No one designs a projectile to slow down before it reaches its destination. Obviously, the blue and white were intended to run out at the same time, to be precisely blended during the burn. My bet is that projectile was originally designed to be a hell of a lot farther away when the fuel ran out, instead of the whole flight sitting in one camera frame - talk about a flop. A line ruptured, a seam burst - something broke. The blue-burning compound "hogged" the primary escape route (the exhaust) to become the sole propellant (not its primary function or purpose). An onboard minor catastrophe, likely at launch or right after, sent the white-burning base propellant venting out the side as the blue-burning booster "took over" the exhaust by sheer chemical force. (There's surely a bad valve involved there somewhere.) And afterward, I'll bet somebody was getting thumped in the head and sent back to the drawing board, the guy who hit him cursing again when he realized there was very public world-wide video circulation of the event... because they must allow that any amateur chemist or enthusiast will realize what they were likely seeing and because they KNOW that any educated professional can sit down with that video and their own educated spectral-analysis skills and knowledge of burn speeds to calculate exactly what was meant to happen instead. They're secrets (whoever they are) are out. "Somebody" is designing a lateral-flying projectile (be it rocket, missile or firecracker on a stick) meant to be faster (and probably more nimble and less noticeable) than the competition. In a world of patriot missiles and strategic defense intitiatives, that means the next step has begun. Somebody's working on the better mousetrap. And you can bet your life that every weapons-building society on the face of this planet is paying attention. They're also keeping their heads down while they go about it, I'm sure - it's just their way. And some poor schmuck's ass probably got into some seriously deep shit over this little fuckup - likely a whole team of meek little geeks. I can just picture them, jaws hanging and brows furrowed - consumed by the "uh-oh" effect. I can't help but giggle. As for the so-called "theories" in circulation among the tabula rasa, it's just another laugh."

I know what you mean. I'm afraid these overt attempts to Christianise (xian, if xmas=christmas, the xian=christian) Dudeism are for ever prevalent, it's the underlying impetus in the xian doctrine to evangelise under any guise they can find.
I don't mind xian's, and have know some nice ones (apart from the Jehovah that took my "Ordained Dudeist Priest" as an incitement to convert instead of a concrete statement that I didn't want to know about xianity from their point of view.) the only thing I can think of is that I use Buddhist and Taoist, and Yoga terms to understand and analyse other religions, xian's by default will use xianity to interpret Dudeism.
I am happy with the idea that Jesus was a Dudeist, I am not happy with the idea that Dudeism is Christian.
If I log onto xian forum and point out all the Pagan origins of their festivals they get a little upset at me.
Should they not actually have the same respect for my religion?
Of all the Xian - Dudeism articles, I think this one was the best. But I don't think any of them are offensive.
For me it's just that Chistianity is "overplayed" - like a pop song that you hear too much. I too groan at attempts to link Jesus with the Dude but only because Jesus is like Britney Spears and the Dude is so much more unsullied and non-co-opted by nations and corporations and armies of slavish dimwits. But people do feel strongly about the original Jesus, and if we can help show Xians how they might re-fashion their savior into an image more in keeping with his Dudeist origins, then we've done a good deed. Am I wrong?

Or xianity is like the glam rock bands at the onset of punk, trying to catch on to the new trendy exciting religion that is growing by saying Dudeism is really xianity therefore xianity is still relevant today by association.

I can identify with Cakes point of view. Though there are a number of very obviously xian members of this forum, TheRighteousDude for instance (Though he is working very much in the other direction, having listened to a couple of his podcasts, heavily pointing out Jesus's Dudeist aspects, with reference to his extensive biblical knowledge, though I did feel like i was playing bingo when he started quoting chapter and verse, sorry righeous ;D).
I do occasionally feel embattled by people trying to take what is the culmination of a life of religious study that finally makes sense of what I have been doing and where I have traveled (don't even mention the road less traveled) and twist it either to a slavish cult of low intellect morons who can only quote from their version of the film script, or another branch of a religion that I rejected at the age of thirteen as being completely unsuitable for me because I failed to identify with any of the text or the way it's practiced (IMHO).
(I may come back and put more punctuation in that last paragraph later)
Forum Dude I do see your point of view. But I am very much of the Buddhist based line when it comes to these xian diatribes (also Dudeist ritual, Dudeist prayer, and Dudeist saints)
"That is your point of view, and it works for you , but stop waving it in my face because it doesn't work for me."
I find this works for most things from sexism, to sexuality, politics, to philosophy, and especially religion.
I am a Practicing Pagan as well as a Dudeist, and you don't see me post things like "That Dude, he's really like Pan because..."
(I am on holiday now until January, so I may come back with a full critical analysis of this article later, or a may even get some work done on my Dudeist I-Ching I keep threatening).
Well, fuck it - now I feel compelled to reply :); I wasn't offended, particularly, by the article in question. I don't think the pictures that were added did the Xian's words any great service - in fact I found them rather patronising ("Jesus is cool" with an electric guitar / Jesus as Superman . . I may give the impression that I am immature, from time to time, especially with the gifs and smileys and shit but really, I ain't 14 years old). However, that is just my opinion and I guess the pics were added as a kind of 'welcome mat' for the Xian's text - a friendly overture, if you will to his sermon - I mean, er . . rap.
I'm not sure the "onus" is on us to do anything, actually . . well, maybe draw a line when/if it looks as if Xian folk are trying a little too hard to draw parallels between their myth and ours. I am not an evangelical so I won't be partaking of any "steering' activities.
Hmm, "bridge building" - I was not aware that there were any bridges that needed construction or repair. I thought the dust had more or less settled in that particular arena of debate. I guess I was wrong. I have had a look at Mr. Byassee's site and read a few of his posts concerning various topics including Missionary work and 'New' Evangelism (and I was immediately reminded of a quote from an anonymous African on his view of Missionaries: " When white man first came nigger had land, he had Bible - now white man has land and nigger has bible"*). One ought, I imagine, to be careful that the 'bridge/s' that you hope to be built are not pontoon bridges to expedite the assault and advance of Xian shock-evangelical-troops. ;)
EDIT:* I think the quote came from: (http://i114.photobucket.com/albums/n262/cakebelly/77947-M.jpg)
It has been years since I read it (I have never owned a copy but would like to if anyone has it on a digital format)
I trust that the Phd after Mr. Byassee's handle hasn't coloured anyone's impression on the depth of his (for want of a better expression) spiritual insight. He does appear to be an erudite chap; I know that M5 is an erudite chap, too - you yourself are also a learned man. I, myself, am not but I know that his chosen example of Mother Teresa as the avatar of holiness (in our time) is dubious (to say the least). You've got to be f'n kidding me . .

His inclusion of MT - as holy avatar - speaks volumes, to me, of his lack of perception in these matters. He may be trying to correct that by - as you put it - bridge building and I am not attacking his character or doubting his good intentions. He is a very well educated cleric - I see no evidence that he is anything else. A 'good man and thurra' he may be but I can most definitely decide for myself whom I consider to be holy or worthy of my esteem, thanks very much. Saints are generally dubbed so because they live lives to the extreme letter of their dogma. There are real saints among us who go unmarked by us - or the world - everywhere. In my book they are generally untainted by dogma (Dudeist, Xian or otherwise). Fuck it.
I'll let the zealot thing pass but I must take issue with the 'knee-jerk-anti-Jesus-club" remark.
In fact I may even resort to a 'fuck you' - no one on this forum, to my knowledge, is anti-Jesus. I thought we had done all that. No one, here, to my knowledge is a knee-jerk reactionary. Oh, we may spout and vomit up the odd diatribe, now and again, but we are generally just fuckin' around and playing (unless otherwise stated). Why do you think JC appears in those little videos I put together? We accept and take on board the essence of JC's teaching (not the Church dogma - okay, we are guilty of accepting what we think was/is the essence of JC's teaching); along with all the other groovy stuff that we find - we are not (as yet) restrained by our own dogma. Dude Soup, Dude (another image from the vids). We want to drink heartily of Dude Soup but we don't want to choke on the croutons of dogma (especially some other faith's dogma). I can't believe I just typed "croutons of dogma").(http://i.imgur.com/YKRU6.jpg)
I guess (speaking for myself) I was just feeling a little run down when I viewed the post we are discussing (and patronised as mentioned). I have no ill-will towards the Methodist Dude or anyone else, here. Yeah, it would be nice to hear from other folk - as you say - Dude Buddha, Dude Humanist, Dude Flat Earth Society . . what-have-you. All are welcome to add their flavours to our soup. But we've done the Jesus thing, haven't we?

I trust that the Phd after Mr. Byassee's handle hasn't coloured anyone's impression on the depth of his (for want of a better expression) spiritual insight. He does appear to be an erudite chap; I know that M5 is an erudite chap, too - you yourself are also a learned man. I, myself, am not but I know that his chosen example of Mother Teresa as the avatar of holiness (in our time) is dubious (to say the least). You've got to be f'n kidding me
....
Firstly thank you for that cake.
1)
I personally draw a distinction between academic, intellectual, and clever.
Having seen the quality of university students (I was a mature student at Durham, UK, an oxymoron I know but anyway) it is my belief that all university (in the UK especially) does for you is make you able to get a degree. In fact it is much like the IQ test, the only thing the IQ test measures is how well you can do the IQ test (do look into why the French who invented it abandoned it in the fifties). Getting a degree just proves you're good at getting a degree. (IMHO)
(see also pay particular attention to Binet's own comments on his tests:
http://iq-test.learninginfo.org/iq01.htm
http://psychology.about.com/od/psychologicaltesting/a/int-history.htm
http://www.iqtest-center.com/history.php)
I hope Klaus wont mind me mentioning this (sorry mate if you do mind). I have seen him do a two page quadratic equation (to calculate pressures of gases) which he does on a regular basis. Now he himself will be the first to say he has very little academic experience, but is one of the cleverest people I know.
I think here I'm saying be careful when someone feels they have to "publish" the fact they are a PhD.
2)
I find the level of academia and so called clever publication (particularly television) has dropped considerably in recent times.
For instance there was recently reported by the BBC (sorry can't find the links) an academic proposing that the "Carry On" films were an excellent indicator of sexual attitudes towards women when studied together.
Now I find this particularly ridiculous because even their producer is quoted as having said he was surprised he had been allowed to get away with the same joke so many times. A much better way to do this with film would be to take a genre (say Sci Fi) and plot a similar period from Baberella (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0062711/) to Alien Resurrection (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0118583/).
I find academics are becoming very lazy in their hypothesis, probably because if you don't make it too complicated it is easier to argue the case (see another case in point, THE PERVERT'S GUIDE TO CINEMA (http://www.thepervertsguide.com/), not what you think a very interesting point of view on cinema, but watch it then go back and look more carefully at the films he has chosen as examples).
If you don't ask hard questions you don't have to look too deeply to find the answer you want to find.
3)
Finally there is a blind spot in most xian review of the message of Jesus. There is a complete negation of the fact that the Bile (sorry Freudin slip meant Bible) as we have it is a distillation committed and approved by the Catholic Church by The Council of Carthage, held on 28 August 397 CE (I use CE, Common Era, rather than Anno Domini, AD, because it is none sectarian).
(see: http://romanchristendom.blogspot.com/2008/03/where-do-books-of-bible-come-from.html and http://bfhu.wordpress.com/2007/03/20/who-decided-which-books-should-be-in-the-bible/) and that there are other extant texts from branches of the church purposefully destroyed by the ROMAN Catholic Church, in it's fight to gain dominance.
The Vandals are often cited as destroying Rome, but the Vandals where actually just another branch of xian faith (Arain Christians, see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vandals#Domestic_religious_tensions and http://www.roman-empire.net/articles/article-016.html). The sacking of Rome being the end of a disagreement about land the Romans had promised them.
The Coptic church was a similar victim of religious consolidation, Unfortuntly for the Roman xians there is a surviving set of documents from this church.
The Nag Hammada Library (see http://www.gnosis.org/naghamm/nhl.html , http://www.nag-hammadi.com/, and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nag_Hammadi_library, I myself have an English translation of this in my library)has such jewels as the gospel according to Mary Magdalene (hints and fragments only, but also leading to theories that Jesus passed his true doctrine on to his favourite disciple Mary Magdalene herself) and the gospel according to Thomas the doubter (removed because a religion that does need someone to stand between you and your god to interpret, lacks the potential to charge you for the privilege (IMHO)).
When constructing a critique of a a historical persons point of view one should look at all evidence not just one source produced to give one biased view point.
---
So that's my opinion.
Well that was a fun Saturday morning ;D.

Yeah, none of this religulous stuff should be taken too seriously. Always gets peoples' hackles up. But obviously Cakebelly (hallowed be his handle) is a bit sensitive about it too! The knee jerk remark wasn't directed at you, cakes.
Don't worry - there's no danger of a council of Carthage (I thought it was the council of Nicea?) forming Dudeism into a fascist cult like the Catholic one. You guys are here to help prevent that from happening.
Just want to make sure that we keep the welcome mat out for The Jesusish folks, even if they can be goddamn morons (just like everyone). The worst thing about them (again, my opinion, man) is that they can be boring. Like listening to a broken record. When I said the "onus is on us" I mean that as Dudeists we should act like the Dude and try and try to incorporate and identify the far out while parrying the full of shit as pacifistically as possible.
I tend to agree with cakebelly & meekon5.
That's all I'm saying, man. Nothing else.
They are indeed honorable, perceptive, and interesting fellows. No disagreement here.
Why, we are all interesting, honorable but slightly gamey chaps; Dude bless us, everyone ;) You know you are in the right religion when you can say "fuck you" to the DL ;D. You possess, Dude, a very fine pair of knees, unblemished by the ravages of time, not a rug-burn or weeping-sore in sight; strong - yet somehow womanly - knees, zesty knees . . dare I say Holy Knees(?) Knees that we can all follow. Well done . . and fuck you, again. ;)
Now I must go and rinse out those hair Y-fronts that M5 lent me - Merry Dudetide, folks and fuck you all, too. ;D

Depending on which version, there are various councils that ratified without a "Revelations" ending, but The Council of Carthage remained the official version for about a thousand years.
I still go with the Buddhist saying that you may have gotten the religion wrong this lifetime perhaps you'll do better next one.
;D
(Tetchy old fart signing off)
I'm a Christian.
Yep,that is what that second c stands for in c.c.keiser! 8^)
I was born and raised roman catholic. Went through 12 years of catholic schools. After graduating and escaping the brainwashing of the church I morphed into Atheism in my 20s. Took another 30 years to rid myself of the last of their mind fucking. But still find myself taking the name in vain when I'm startled. Some mind fucks just run to frickin deep.
If you really want to know about The Church you need to research how they got started in the Dark Ages. Anything written after the year 400 is suspect and of little value since just about everything after that date was written by The Church itself.
The Dark Ages are "dark" because that is what The Church wanted. They wanted to erase or rewrite all history that did not conform to their teachings.
They sparked The Great Migration by persecuting the Druids and "Heathens" that would not convert. Everyone was fleeing in terror of the army of the church, but where ever they fled the church was either there already or not far behind.
By the time of Charlemagne there was no place left to run.
If you want to know the truth about the church, start with Charlemagne and work backwards.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charlemagne
Just remember that just about everything you read after the year 400 was pretty much written by The Church itself. The Jesuits were every where and have pretty much corrupted all history ever since.
far out. i guess i have to change my middle initial to D. at the moment it's A, which is cool by me as well - anarchy? atheism? antidisestablishmentarianism? two out of three ain't bad.
on the whole all religions are full of mind fucking. buddhism isn't that much better, at least the way it's practiced here in asia. taoism is a mess of magic tricks.
there was a great chapter in "the lucifer principle," a book i read years ago which drove the point home that control of the invisible is far more important than control of the visible in recounting the henry vs hildebrand debacle - http://www.scribd.com/doc/22589677/Howard-Bloom-The-Lucifer-Principle.
luckily, there isn't anything invisible in dudeism. hopefully it will stay that way.
Huh, I feel like a puppy whose just been given a postman flavoured bone: great resource, this Scribed. Edit: You have to sign-up through Facebook - too much hassle there to be able to download but still a great text resource.
@CC - Seems to me, Dude, that you have reclaimed yourself - kudos, mang.
My mother left Ireland for London when she was 16 - as soon as her feet hit Blighty she dropped all the Catholic baggage and never even attempted to bring us kids up (7 of us) in any kind of faith. General good manners, thinking of others - usual motherly lessons but not a peep about Popes. She didn't have anything good to say about the repressive Roman regime and yet, at this time of year, she would sometimes pine for the pageantry of Midnight Mass. Whenever she traveled back to Eire she would always fish out her wedding ring (even though she'd been divorced for years) and slip it back onto her finger - she'd go to Church, too. She cared more about what her old friends would think of her if they knew she was a divorcee . . it leaves it's mark, certainly. I'm happy she found some form of freedom, you too, Dude. Abide

Yeah, sorry about that forumdude, it was my bad. When my window locked up I got a little mouse crazy trying to unlock it. I must of clicked on a embedded link.
Why my window locked up is another matter. I may need to switch from IE to Chrome for that web site.

Sorry to bring this up again but in reply to Ethan (http://dudespaper.com/saint-lebowski.html/):

You act as though they are mutually exclusive, that Dudeist Christian is not the same as Christian Dudeist. The author was merely saying that the Dude?s philosophy is compatible, if not admirable, with Christianity.
@Ethan
Sorry if yu are getting that vibe from what is here please have a look at the conversation on the forum as well.
I don?t think any of us have a problem with Dueist Christians or Christian Dudeists. The problem we have is the co-opting of what we actually think of as a very serious religious point of view.
The problem we (particularly Cake and Myself) have is the feeling that we are continually embattled by Christians telling us that we are not practicing Dudeism but really just Christians.
As Dudeists we are not Christians that is our choice. There are Dudeists who are Christians, we have no problem with this point of view.
The point of view we do have a problem with is that we are not Christians (those of us who are not Christian), we don?t want to be Christians.
Please, please stop trying to make us Christian.
Having grown up in a half-Jewish half-Catholic family, I would say, if I were FORCED to choose that Dudeism seems to follow Judaism more than Christianity. However, the reason I choose to be a Dudeist is because it is NEITHER of these religions, but it's own. If I were to be told that being a Dudeist meant I were a Christian, I would cease to be a Dudeist for the same reasons I ceased to be Christian. By hey, that's just, like.....my opinion, man.

Uber to an extent I agree.
I also rejected Christianity as a point of view in my early teens.
Which is probably why I'm usually one of the first to jump on the soap box to start shouting against xianiation.
Right on! My soap box is usually occupado with Church/State. The Dude, like his foredudes does not abide with the mixing of the two. It's not like Kahlua and cream you know. : )
