Well, according to Al Bundy, part of being a man is 'making mistakes and not caring". I think it's best to simply not give a fuck about to much. Just concentrate on the good, little things in life, like beer, caucasians, hamburgers, women with luscious big hooters, etc. For all the rest, well "fuck it, let's go bowling"!

Well, yeah I did, but I spent most of my time occupying various, um, administration buildings, bowling and hanging out in pubs spraying clothing on topless girls from a spray can.......

Tell you the truth, Brandt, I don't remember most of it.  ;D

Try this:

Tony Porter: A call to men (http://www.ted.com/talks/tony_porter_a_call_to_men.html?utm_source=newsletter_weekly_2010-12-15&utm_campaign=newsletter_weekly&utm_medium=email).

I dont agree about some of the violence against women statistics (being an ex-beaten husband myself) being skewed towards women as usual (men are beaten too, but don't tend to report it, because of the subjects covered in the majority of this talk).

First follow the link then:

There is a lot of domestic violence statistics, and many campaigns against domestic violence (particularly one here recently in the UK) that all focus on men beating women, and very publicly talk about how we can help women in this situation. as such these "causes" demonise men as the aggressor.

I object to this point of view because there are possibly as many cases of men being beaten by their wives, I will say that again, there are possibly an equal number of cases of men being beaten by their wives.

My own situation involved a problem my wife had with a premenstrual problem and the fact that she had been abused as a child by one of her uncles.

Unfortunately for me she was trained in Taekwondo. Luckily for me I had done a little Karate. So when she attacked me with a serrated edge knife one evening when I got home I was able to defend myself and disarm her.

After thirteen months of both physical and mental abuse (the beatings I could handle, the mind games destroyed me and contributed to one of my first mental breakdowns, and the subsequent loss of my job) I eventually could take it no longer hit her back and walked out.

There are a lot of people like me, men beaten by women, who are not as easy with vocalising their history, or in fact are still in the abusive relationship, because domestic violence campaigns demonise  men as the aggressor so beaten men think there is no place they can go to get help for the problem.

Bummer, man! That's a bummer.

But seriously, I think that physical "domestic" violence ist just part of the problem,as you wrote, Meekon.

I remember someone rather close to me, telling me one day, that he slapped his wife in the face. He was devasted and full of shame because of that.
However, after he had told me what she had said to him before he slapped her, well, don't get me wrong, I don't want to condone violence, far from it, but I kind of could understand him. To be honest, I don't know if I had acted differently.

And surely that guy is not a violent one usually.

Faithfully
