Hey there, Crane  8)

According to the Coen Brothers (on the 10th Anniversary Edition of TBL - Extras disc); Maude's accent isn't British (you could have fooled me and I'm a Brit) but a kinda generic "finishing school" accent. Take it easy, man.

Well sort of. I'd call it New England. That's where all the boys and girls schools are. It
mostly doesn't exist anymore. But in our area we still have Mary Lou Whitney lead the parade
through town. She is the only actual living example of this sort of thing that I know of.

Speaking of which, mang, I nominate Jim Backus (Thurston Howell III) as a great dude in history.

Easten elite works for me. A bit like that arsehole that fucked with Jonathon E in Rollerball.
Please excuse the amnesia.Just watched TBL with my boy as he's now old enough,we went bowling tonight
and he hardly needs help at all to line up the frame.
Shit, won't be long before he can drive us home without sitting on my lap.

Interesting thing. It's been a while since I watched the interviews on my copy of TBL but I recall Julianne Moore saying that Maude didn't have an accent but an affectation. According to the internet an affection is "conspicuous artificiality of manner or appearance; effort to attract notice by pretense, assumption, or any assumed peculiarity."

Yeah?  What do you think happens when you get a movie part?  You turn in your library card?  Get a new driver's license? You take on a phony accent? (http://www.greatdebateforum.com/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
