Believe it or not The Dude's bathrobe is actually Jeff Bridge's real life casual wear, he brought it in for the movie because the directors wanted him to bring in something that he would wear on his leisure time so that it would look more natural on him.

If I were you I would check vintage thrift stores and look for something like that there. Definitely in the 1960's section.

Hope this helps you out dude. We abide.

Do you want his actual robe?

Or just one like it?

You probably won't be able to find something exactly like it - because god only knows where Jeff Bridges got his clothing.

However, just a standard beige robe from any department store should do the trick.

I got my bathrobe in the mail last night. I love it. Wore it all evening. I really felt super relaxed just by putting it on. This is the one I got if you're still looking. They have a few more selections. They even have a green one in there that looks like Maude's. https://www.thirstytowels.com/turkish-textiles/49/product/Waffle%20Bathrobe

everyones robe is a little different right? i mean, someone stole mine for me from a four seasons hotel, and its all ratty and nasty and i like to go to the market wearing it, it helps me knowing; a. that is was stolen and b. those four seasons motherfuckers charge like $225 for these robes and people in my community actually buy them. i dunno, its my robe. is that wrong of me, enjoying the stoen robe and wearing it when i drop my ( poor weird) 8 year old off while wearing it and my old mens slippers?

What a picture.

Why have children if you're not going to psychologically scar them. after all it's the only way your going to get any payback on the mess your parents made of you (objective not subjective there).

they where either as cool as fuck, or the most nasty anal retentive nihilist out here, depending on whether he emulated them or (much like I did as a kid) just went the other way to annoy them.

actually I had lunch with my Dad a week or so back got onto the subject of interviews and he made some comment about people not hiring people that looked like taliban, bless him (he is ex-RAF so a bit skewed in his opinons about how people should look).

Hey man this unchecked aggression will not stand...I'm ex RAF and don't give a flying fuck how people look or sound or live ...that's their business man not mine....who the fuck am I to judge!

I evolved dude your dad clearly didn't.

Peace to you and your broad statement.  ;)

So I was thinking that if every uptight undude in the world; you know, undudes like Gaddafi, Hitler, Kim Jong Il, Stalin, Bin Laden, Timothy McVeigh and the asshole next store who took a shot at your dog for humping his dog would all just mellow out a little and wear a robe when out shopping for half n' half the world would be a better place.

Am I wrong? OK then.

Please my Dad once saw an officer wearing his shirt without a tie and with his sleeves rolled up and Dad nearly had an eppy about him being improperly dressed.

My brother and I went to extremes both growing our hair and me growing a beard as a teenager. He used to walk on the other side of the road from us when we where out.

He has got better with age but still has some funny views on some things.

Well done for evolving Caesar theres quite a few ex-forces people I know who didn't.

Thanks Koog. The main reason I chose that one was because of the price. LOL. I think It's the cheapest one there but yet the awesomest.

The only thing I've been able to ascertain with any degree of certainty is that the robe has a shawl collar and looks, at least to me, like a short and dense-piled velour or fleece.  Could possibly be terrycloth, but I'm leaning to fleece.

I'm guessing it was made more for softness and comfort than moisture-absorbtion per se, and though there's no evidence of plush-piling (that almost iridescent look you get with shaggier velvets, velours, etc.), that doesn't preclude the possibility of the robe being made with these materials, but in a shorter-than-average pile.

(Sorry....my dad sold and installed carpet for thirty years.  It's almost spooky sometimes how much shit you pick up and retain even years after the information has ceased to be useful to you.)

BINGO!  Now THIS is what I'm talkin' about!  Not sure why it's advertised as a woman's robe though.  Just what makes a brown robe not unisex?

i got an exact replica of the dude's robe off of ebay and i gotta break the bad news, dudes. it's really not that comfy. kind of a rough polyester foam. not bad, but nothing like fleece or micofiber or terry.

Damn my bathrobe is disintegrating and I was going to replace it with what I thought was a Dude-a-like. Sod it I'm going with the terry toweling for comfort and practicability anyway.

Go to Sears website and look at their Covington Waffle Robe. They come in White, navy, light blue and beige. Beige looks as close to Dude's as I've come across. It's pretty damn close. Only $27 with a regular price of $36, and you can order online :)

You dress like that on a weekday sir?

I gotta feed the monkey same as the next drinker.By the way, there's an excellent picture of the little chap on wiki.Just look up organ grinder and scroll down.
As I was saying, lost my strand there for a minute,I work 4 from 6 with paired rolling rest days & 11 in 24 Sundays (compulsory overtime)
So would anyone care to define for me what is meant by 'weekday'?
We don't all drive a desk.

well dudes, we just dont know except i kindof DO.
the dudely-lama has a replica of the robe and its tag, though worn is no high end name but wither a mervyn's or kohl's type tag, if you loook at my pics you can see i took a pic of our DL showing the tag! go see it, and remind ME of what it says, i cant remember right now what it was called, but it wasnt a fancy shmancy robe, and im actually surprised if the robe bridges wore in the movie was his. i've hear he owned the jellies and the baseball shirt but never that the robe came from his closet. also, also, dude, lets not forget that robes come in all sorts of wonderful fabrics, and colors, i picked up THREE today at the local thrift store( $5.00 for all you can stuff in a hefty bag sale at st mary's!) and i got THREE very dude robes.

Expensive in my personal opinion, $20 for that T-shirt is expensive, but I'm European so what do I know? I buy a T-Shirt for 3-6 EUR.
