Don't Worry, Be Happy, Bobby McFerin ???
That is certainly one I can stand and salute! Although I think you might get a long list of suggestions coming your way :)
Might we get a parody of Lane of Hope and Glory? Land of Dope and Voddy? ::)
Also, I vote our first Dudeist religious hymn should be "Hymn 43" by Jethro Tull.
I nominate an obscure song from The 1997 movie Good Burger. Titled:
"We're all dudes". I think this song emulates the dudeist faith and all that other stuff. ;)

I would nominate "Tumbling Tumbleweeds," by Sons of the Pioneers. It's the song heard over the opening credits of the film. Here's why Dudes... I feel that the tumbleweed is the perfect metaphor for us taken'er easy kind of Dudes. We just sort of FUCKING ROLL in whatever direction the wind (or situation) pushes us. Wheather it be across a desert, down a boulevard, or on to a sandy beach; we just roll with the punches. Am I wrong? 8)
Also, Dudes.... is "national anthem" the prefered nomenclature?

Well, maybe the term "national anthem" is inappropriate because it alienates our international brothers. And I thought that I had recommended the perfect Anthem, but I concede your recommendation may be better. I like the symbology as well as the actual harmony of tumbleweeds. My recommendation for Mr. McFerrin's ballad, although lyrical and melodic, doesn't carry the philosophical content that tumbleweeds brings to the bar.
Excellent recommendation which I second!

Actually the "Nation Of Dude" is were ever you find two or more Dudes sharing a brew or a J, so you can't exclude anyone geographically by refering to it.
In my opinion that is.

The Pan-Dudeian Nation?
That's the vote of confidence in my ramblings there, Rev. Wade. The Pan-Dudeian Nation refers to two things at once.
Firstly, it's the entire Dudeist community ("pan" being Latin for "all," "of everything," "involving all members" of a group). No matter who you are, where you are and what you're doing, hence the implication you don't need to emulate The Dude to be A Dude.
Secondly it refers to the entire planet, in the hope that all of mankind can become that Nation of the Dude. An aspiration for Dudetopia on Earth :)

Ahhhh! The end of civilisation as we know it ;D
A dudeist civilization? Sounds like a fabulous idea! All we would need is to have our own country with our own dudely laws to abide to.

All I can say is "Right on, dudes." Crank the Creedence too! That's gotta be considered nationally important at least, if they're not in the anthem running! Gotta love CCR.

Maybe an instrumental would be a good idea. Somethings are beyond words and lyrics are limited to the language they're in. The Allman Brothers JESSICA is one suggestion. Any other instrumental suggestions?

Yo JJ dude!
Can you compose one? Maybe call it White Russian, or maybe just call it Dudeism??

Would love to take shot at it. There's probably a bunch of musicians ordained, it would be cool if a whole bunch came up with tunes of their own. Maybe we could get a compilation CD going, "Dudeist Tuneage" or something like that.
I nominate http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqyxpuh3tTE (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cqyxpuh3tTE) primarily because I try never to miss an opportunity to nominate it for something. It's not quite an instrumental but we can just sing (or croak) "just be dude" over the 'mouldy old dough' vocals.
It would need to be a Credence tune.
Looking out My Backdoor.
Proud Mary
Suzie Q
Who'll stop the rain
What ever...
I'm putting in my vote for "Tumbling Tumbleweeds".
My argument:
1) It's the first song that pops into your head when you think about The Dude.
2) It was written in Los Angeles
3) Paul McCartney and John Lennon did it as a duet.
4) It is quoted in City Slickers
5) The lyrics -
I'm a roaming cowboy riding all day long,
Tumbleweeds around me sing their lonely song.
Nights underneath the prairie moon,
I ride along and sing this tune.
See them tumbling down
Pledging their love to the ground
Lonely but free I'll be found
Drifting along with the tumbling tumbleweeds.
Cares of the past are behind
Nowhere to go but I'll find
Just where the trail will wind
Drifting along with the tumbling tumbleweeds.
I know when night has gone
That a new world's born at dawn.
I'll keep rolling along
Deep in my heart is a song
Here on the range I belong
Drifting along with the tumbling tumbleweeds.

Thank you for your consideration!
i put forward the band's the weight
I don't hate the idea.
Here's the link for the Tumblin' Tumbleweeds slide-show I slapped together (poor audio quality on this one, sorry 'bout that) - the other three can be found in the same virtual vicinity:

A National Anthem would presuppose a "Dude Nation." Dudeism is universal and international. A dude could be from any nation or none.
Maybe a Dudeism unofficial theme would be better, mang.
