Some time ago, I read about the rites for the greek god Dionysos: in the cities existed associations of people who just liked to have parties on the countryside (bowling wasnt invented yet), enjoying wine (nor were Caucasians), music (nor Creedence) , peace, happiness and helping each other to concieve. And they venered nymphs in caves, that's similar to special ladies and bathtubs.
And I think that's cool and a quite dudish form of religion.
Far out! I think we can chalk this one up as another compeer.
Man, those Greeks invented everything first!
I expect there were probably many such groups, organised or otherwise, over the centuries who have cottoned on to the idea of just kicking back. It's always interesting to know where in the world and at what time, so we can track the evolution of the Dudeist edict through human-centred time and Earth-bound space.
And let's not forget, LET'S NOT FORGET, the gyros, the great food they have in Greece man, fuckin' A...
Dionysus, equated with Bacchus (anglicised version of the name) or Baccus.
Actually http://www.pantheon.org/articles/d/dionysus.html (http://www.pantheon.org/articles/d/dionysus.html)
Bacchus (the roman god of wine) is the more usual and proliphic reference. One of my own personal favorite deities. (See my Blog http://meekon5.blogspot.com/2010/02/good-bad-and-pagan-paganism-and-neo.html (http://meekon5.blogspot.com/2010/02/good-bad-and-pagan-paganism-and-neo.html))
Heh, I was thinking of Bacchus actually, and of course, he's the Roman compeer of the Greek original.
There was a group at one of my roleplay events years ago who used to run an in-character bar, they were called the Bacchus Bastards. Togas and homebrew wine... need I say more.

And surely a Robe is just a modern Toga?

I can think of one ancient culture that might feel, uh, gypped by that statement. 8)
Well, you've got to hand it to the Greeks, but yeah, the Chinese, the Indians and the Arabs were also there at the forefront of, y'know... everything, back in ancient times. But cultural anthropology is a fairly intricate science and I'm not about to wade in as a specialist here, man :D
