I've started this thread in response to discussions started elsewhere:

May have to start a new thread for this one. Klaus Korters and myself have been mates for years, and I've just sent him a message about "Dudes Day" perhaps we could have a local chapter meeting (has Pompey got a bowling alley?).
The only one I know of is in Gunwharf, but, much like my local in Fareham it's crowded and loud, but it is larger and has quiet shady drinking corners and pool tables!
And yes, starting a new thread is good idea, try and see if we can make a South Coastal hub for Dudes Day 8)
Basically trying to arrange some sort of Dudeist gathering for at least the Hampshire (or even Portsmouth and surrounding) area if not the south coast (not intentionally excluding anyone as all welcome) on the Day of the Dude.
So your homework (should you choose to accept it) is to discuss and debate:
Can we do it, yes we can.
Portsmouth is fantastically central, and the main station here takes trains in from the south west, south east, Wales and London, and ferries from the Isle of Wight and Gosport.
The local alley is right next to said station and is part of a shopping centre, so has ample parking, as well as pool tables in the bar area.
And, if it all gets too crowded and noisy at any point, I know a nice quiet pub hidden around a few corners outside.
Come fly the Dudeist flag on March 6th, chill in good company 8)
Dude I chill for a livin' 8) no really I do.
Hell yeah this is a highly polished idea, meekon5 and myself also know a pub where we'd fit in with no raised eyebrows.
Sounds good! ;D
I'm hoping we can get a few more people in. Only got seven days to find more southern Dudes. Otherwise, I'm sure we can have a good holy-day with just the three of us :)
can i post this event at the dudespaper? is it official?
i'm hoping to get my new mailing list software up and running asap to remind people of the day of the dude. my previous mail server provider got all reactionary on me a few weeks ago when i tried to send out mails to 70 thousand people. i'd like to let people know about any upcoming events before it's too late.
i myself am looking forward to the Wii bowling tournament on the beach in thailand, preceeded by the movie, suceeded by a creedence jam. hopefully there will be proper dudeists in attendance, and not just a bunch of ravers crying out for techno music!

Forumdude post away even if it's only me, Ed, and Klaus, we will be there to honour the Dude on Dudes Day.
We may even achieve a few incriminating pictures.
can i get a contact email and some details from one of you english (the nation of angels. wal, i wouldn't call it that exactly, but i reckon there are some nice folks out there) dudes? something to fit into the day of the dude article at the dudespaper.
thankee!
You can always give my email out to fellow Dudes, the door to my spiritual bungalow is always open. It's available on my profile page here.
Although you'll forgive me for not publisising it here in the open, but I know this forum suffers from undudely invasions one in a while, and I already get enough spam in my inbox.
hey ed,
i'll post it at the dudespaper article if you don't mind - i've got a script that obfuscates emails so that spambots can't read it. there'll be a link that says " contact rev. ed" and clicking on it will open up a new compose email window.
thanks!
hey, I'm just up Basingstoke way, if I can scratch together the funds I'll come on down and say hey
I'm up for the 6th, just say where and time...
Good to have a few more people on board!
Just pop me an email (take a look at my profile for the address) and we can swap numbers and such.
At the moment, I'd say we're probably make it a late morning thing, especially if people are coming from further afield, although if that is the case I might book us some lane time, because the darned place'll get crowded on a Saturday. But, of course, the drinking is all day :D
I won't even begin to firm anything until mid-week, because, well, life's just too uncertain at this time :)
If you're coming by car, check routes into Portsmouth and head for the Harbour/Gunwharf Quays. By train, look for Portsmouth Harbour station. By Ferry, well, if you're that local, you'll know ;)

Good thinking Ed. I was thinking more early afternoon (1400hrs) perhaps, give the other Dudes time to get to Pompey and not have to rush in the AM.
Cool on you dudes. May The Dude be with you.
I'd love to attend guys but I have to feed the monkey...would love a trip down to Pompey (I'm in east Anglia) so maybe if this successful you could organise another date for kahlua n voddy n bowling....
I'm gonna have to celebrate after work with a couple of drinks and a special movie. ;)
Peace guys...
I only just joined, but I live across at Emsworth. Haven't had time to go through all the posts, but could you let me know where/when the bowling is (on Saturday?).
If you haven't got a venue, there's one at Bedhampton on the road up to Portsdown Hill, just next to Homebase.
Let me know, and I'll bring my Walter-PPK
Dave The Dude
Hey Dave. I know that alley in Bedhampton, it's a good one, nice pool hall. But alas, it's not so accessible. Maybe with some planning we can use it next year.
We're looking at Saturday afternoon up Gunwharf (yeah, I know, it's crowded, but we'll split to a quiet venue after the bowling and pool) as it's central and easily accessible.
We'll start firming up towards the end of the week.
And yeah, Ceaser, maybe we'll organise something with more, y'know, planning towards the summer to get a few more people involved. East Anglia is a bit of a way to come for a casual get together :-\
Ed, Thanks for the reply. Keep me posted about times etc. for Saturday afternoon, and I'll be there. DTD :)
Ok guys and gals, Dudes and... err, other Dudes.
We'll be meeting up between 12:00 and 14:00 on Saturday, to give us all some time to wake up, wash up and mosey on down to Portsmouth Harbour and slowly form into, y'know, some kind of Dudely posse.
The day's events will probably include socialising, drinking, bowling, philosophising and the consumption of local cuisine (something with chips). Maybe even a group trip into the cinema to see Crazy Heart, if people feel like splashing out! But, y'know, whatever mood takes us is gonna be the true schedule.
It's probably best if we meet up in the bar at the Bowlplex. Once you're in Gunwharf Quays the Bowlplex is on the upper level overlooking the main quad. I'm sure it won't be that hard to spot each other. I'll probably be skulking at the back near the pool tables with a good book and a pint of slow-brewed apple soda.
Anyone wishing to contact me, my email is available via my profile and the DotD section of Dudeism.com. I'll throw you my mobile number in case you get truly lost or are running late, or whathaveyou.
Hope to see all you locals there!
I wish that I could join you dudes, but until I figure out how to make my rug fly I'm grounded. I'll be there in spirit. So pull a pint for me, and then, uh, drink it for me too.

Will do Elbowski, will do, man.
Although if we had to do that for everyone who wanted to come but wasn't able to, I think we might all need to bring spare livers!
In moderation we abide 8)
Right Chaps for those of you who don't abide in Pompey, map for where the Bowlplex is from the station;
Pin (A) is the bus station and the place the train lands (Portsmouth harbour station) pin (B) is the Bowlplex.
It should take a minute to walk from one to the other.
Look forward to seeing those of you that make it.
Don't worry You'll find me wondering around lost as i can never work bloody Gun Wharf out.
And fo those that dont like maps, a picture of the same thing (I find these can be simpler):

The Day was a rip-roaring success.
Three men, a modest pile of monkey chow, a bar and a waitress!
Here's the first of three pictures. This is Meekon, taking a picture of Klaus, taking a picture of me, taking a picture of... ah, you get the idea...

A splendid day of the dude! This myself taking a picture of Ed taking a picture of Meekon5.
Good food and conversation washed down with a coupla white russians.

And finally:
Pete taking a picture of Ed, taking a picture of me, taking a... (yeh you get the idea)
OK chaps there was some talk about organising this a little better, and setting another meeting in about two months time.
Any input?
Wow, Pete looks scary in the shade! Anywho...
I think the best thing is to plan ahead if more people are interested. Give people more time to:
a) Hear about it
b) Plan for the trip
c) Scrape up the baksheesh
Maybe a little summer suar? (if you'll pardon my French), a hottenanny (if you'll pardon my Hollandeese), a shindig if you will.
Or if not, just the three of us will make do. Feel free to come over to Fareham next time, Darts and Bar Billards ar the Clinkers awaits! My round!
Like er BOO man ;D
Hey Ed a day at The Clinkers sounds good, though excuse my puerile mind for sniggering at the name ;D

Hola Zen Dog. No relation to Rev. Dog are you? :) Are you down here near Portsmouth?
Next meetup I'm planning with Meekon and Klaus will be in the near future for darts at my local.
Kind of having problems with my new job, many unsociable night/weekend shifts but hoping to get a clear gap soon I can sort something out.
Buenos noches Ed
No relation
I live in Henley on Thames (I used to live in Fort Blockhouse)
I'm realy dangerous at darts
I work very antisocial shifts too (I'm a train driver)
Down the trail dude.
They don't tend to let me have sharp objects at home.

... and yet I know a man who'll give them to you, along with a glass or three of intoxicant water!
What a crazy world we live in.
With my work schedule the way it is, the only weekends I have off for a while are this coming weekend, which is pretty much out of the question as I have to work nightshifts around it, so I won't go to bed until at least 9am on Saturday morning. The weekend of the 17th/18th is good as I'll be back on a day-cycle for the first time in a month. Then I'm not free until the weekend of 14th/15 of August. If either of those weekends are good for you and Klaus, let me know!

Heh, Blockhouse. I'm currently working in Collingwood. There's talk of closing Blockhouse down soon, which is just another problem for our base accommodation, which gets fuller the more ships they decomission and the less officers they kick out for being useless pollips.
Small world :)

I'm sorry, are you feeling left out? What with you being a current inmate, and all?
Anyway, let me know about the above when you've spoken with Klaus. I'm starting to think I could do with a good old fashioned socialise after the month I've had/am having!

I'm in communications with Klaus as we speak. will return with info later.
Well, it's almost been a year, and we kind of failed to get it together in between, as we'd very almost nearly started to think about planning...
I've just swapped a shift so I get Sunday 6th of March off.
The offer of "hosting" in my local area is still on, for anyone local to the Fareham/Portsmouth area.
Hoping we can at least match the three we managed last year, and maybe go for a four-man drink this time? If memory serves, it's my round to start! :)
