Title: Other Dudes in movies, man
Post by: therighteousdude on February 15, 2010, 08:25:48 PM
So, what other movie Dudes can we come up with?

I vote for Ferris Bueller. Yeah, he puts a lot of work into not doing anything, but he is laid back, man.

I believe that the actual character profiles for Walter and the Dude are taken from Fred Flintstone and Barney Rubble.
I mean, you know, come on. It's right there.

Despite Snoopy being publically hailed as a great Dude in history, Woodstock is perhaps the more Dudely, simply because Snoopy shares a quality with me, that when things don't quite go right, he snaps and snarls and throws a tantrum.  Of course, in a Lebowskist sense, even The Dude was human enough to snap and get frustrated sometimes, not with life, mostly with Walter, to be fair :)

We all have our own inner Walter Dude.

Snoopy sometimes instigates an aggression that will not stand.

Floyd-Brad Pitt's character(Dick's roommate) in True Romance. Heavy Dudeosity. Also one of the greatest casts ever.

Definitely Silent Bob. Though, I personally feel we should pay homage to Jimmy the Janitor of Todd and the Book of Pure Evil.

Silent Bob would get my vote. Also Jeff, from the movie Jeff, Who Lives At Home.

I watched Office Space recently and the main character in that becomes pretty dudelike. He is hypnotised though.

I'd say , it's a character from a french movie call "Alexandre le bienheureux " which roughly translated give "Very Happy Alexander" in this movie , I think there's the dudest of all french actors , Phillippe Noiret , in this movie his main goal is to chill and take it easy like during the whole movie , a must-see I'd say for any Dudeist movies enthusiast .

I notice a lot of dudes in the stuff I watch with my kid:

I consider Kermit the Frog to be pretty Dude, sure he gets frantic sometimes and tries to make things go smoothly sometimes but he doesn't take much personally and he's also really adaptable and once the horribly ill-fated act or scheme is over, he moves on to the next thing and forgets all about the past, and things just tend to work out pretty well for him and the rest of the muppets.

Jake from Adventure Time is another dude I dig, there was actually a claymation special episode they did where Jake basically becomes Taoist and while everyone is working and preparing for a major month-long thunderstorm he decides to take in as much of nature as he can so he can stay calm and help others stay calm when they end up stuck in a bunker waiting out the storm.

Han Solo always struck me as a dudely type but he's got a little bit of heero mixed in too to account for the roguish violence.  Especially after this latest film though you kinda see that his default setting is just floating through space and letting life work itself out.  The minute he tries to be responsible he ends up meeting with some very bad consequences.

stuff that isn't for kids hmm...

I also was reminded instantly of The Dude after seeing Michael Caine (or as he says it "My Cocaine") in the movie Children of Men.  He's basically a british "The Dude" in a post-apocalypse.  The fact that they cast Maude herself in the film too didn't hurt.

Forrest Gump is also a total dude.  Totally uncarved block, doesn't get hung up on anything really except Jenny and even then, he isn't possessive about her or anything just fond of her.  He's at peace with himself and who he is though and pretty much just floats on the breeze and does what he wants because he "just felt like running"

Pretty much every character Leslie Nielsen ever played was some dude or other, failing at all kinds of modest tasks but somehow working things out in the end.

Nick Frost's characters in Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz are dudely by default.

Groot is pretty fucking dude too.

My vote would be for Dusty in the movie Twister. He just seems like a very easy going laid back kinda dude.
