In the movie.
Might have been covered before but....
Toward the end. Just after Maude tells the Dude that the big Lebowski is
a faker and doesn't have money of his own, the Dude runs into the den
and calls Walter. You hear the phone ringing "brinnnnng, brinnnnng, etc".
Dude starts saying into the phone pick up Walter yadda yadda. Trouble is
that no answering machine has picked up. It's still ringing so Walter could
not have heard the Dude. Yet when Walter does pick up he seems to allude
to the having heard the Dude telling him that it's an emergency.
Bush league psych out stuff man!
I saw that too, but wrote it off to telepathic powers. Dude didnt need a phone, just didnt want to alarm Maude. Durned inneresting.
also noticed ..just the other day in fact..but since Walter is privy to a lot of military and security-industry secrets..perhaps he has a device that makes it appear as if the phone is ringing when really he can hear what "the ringer" is saying before he picks up...and the Dude knew that of course.
Nah Dudes, it's intentional. It's actually part of the joke.
The whole joke is that he shouldn't pick up except for emergencies, so why did he pick up? Because he's a bit of a wally about his Holy Day.
It's an intentional joke.
Dudes, as a once observant jew who couldnt' handle the whole 'rules' thing, I have to agree with our new friend, Save, here.
I got the joke that way from first viewing.
I haven't had a phone in sixteen years ..... shit just comes in naturally.... not a blooper.......wait a minute my mind is ringing I'll be right back.
I had a friend that could actually tell it was me calling before she picked up. She answered the phone greeting me by name. Freaky.
