Hate to mix metaphors here, and I know that this is not the preferred nomenclature, but it occurred to me when the bailout of the banks started, that the US government is like one of those corrupt sheriffs in a Western.  Supposedly represents the public interest and justice but everybody in town knows the sheriff works for the bankers, the mining bosses, the big ranchers, the railroads.

I mean, Jackie Treehorn's henchmen may not be able to tell the difference between Jeffrey Lebowski and The Dude.  But the people know.

Exactly.
But the form of Government is, for the time being such that at least in
theory we can kick the bums out.
I think it is sound to criticize the government, in fact essential but we have
to be careful because in this case the problem was too little "Good"
Government. Clearly we have a LOT of Government. 2 wars, bailouts
and on and on but the Government that is supposed to provide oversight
and consumer protection has been gutted and while people are mezmarized
by the typical talking points and talk show vitriol, lobbiests and insiders have been
tunneling toward the mint.
It should be clear now what the real agenda was and is. But it's amazing how
people just never get it that it is ALL about the money.
The mob can pay off the cops. But they'd rather just have less cops. It costs
less. Now imagine the mob controlling the news papers and TV stations.
Don't you think they'd be tryna sell people on the idea of doing away with
the cops as corrupt inefficient nazi's?
The fact that they for the most part are exactly that is beside the point.
The people need to demand more good cops.

Oh and take notice of this little gem.
After the Government has shown it's self to be openly run
by wall street and corporations, the supreme court chose this
time to make it official. We are toast. Welcome to the last days of Rome.
