Like some other books written by Gaarder, this book brings together philosophy and an adventure book for teenagers. However, here the history of philosophy is presented in more chronological and organized way. A girl called Sophie receives strange letters and she starts to discover the wisdom of people such as Socrates, Epicurus and George Berkeley.
