The Men Who Stare at Goats - a very dude movie indeed.

Here's why:
1) The Dude! (Jeff Bridges stars).
2) Clooney! (Coens regular).
3) Occasional acid flashbacks. (MINOR SPOILER ALERT! Lots of stuff about LSD). Not that this a reason for this movie to be dude... But still.
4) Bridges' character is VERY much like the Dude. That's most likely why they chose him for the role. His approach to life, to the army... Lots and lots of Dudeist stuff. In fact, this could've been the Dude's pre/post-TBL story (sorta). If you're wondering what in god's holy name I'm blathering about, watch the movie, dudes!

There may have been other things... But I kinda lost my train of thought here. Anyway, this is just, like, my opinion, dudes, and it is not the issue here. What I'm trying to tell those of you who haven't seen the movie yet, is to do so. Guaranteed to be enjoyed by any Dudeist.

I LOVE the men who stare at goats i have seen the movie countless times and read the books , listened too the auido book too i love the whole jedi theroy and the interesting things they went through from sticky foam through to the frankly horrific MK Ultr a tests

Agrees! Right on up there with TBL. Loved everyone in it. Watched it twice already.
Good flick and to those of us who are into that whole type of thing a good conversation started and a great segue into Idealism....Idealism was the basic philosophy behind the whole gov. program.
Not sure if it's really a topic for Dudeism though....it can be a bit rough on the mind trying to get down too deep about shite that we can not really do much about anyway.
Whether or not Reality is Real or an Illusion...we all still need to feed the monkey, and we all still need to take er easy and learn to abide while making our way through Fascist Gov. and all types of Reactionaries and human paraquats.
I wish there were some magic words I could give you to change everything into nothing but Comfort and Joy....but Realism and Idealism pretty much work the same at the macro level.
Yeah, there are some really important difference but Learning to take it easy...try to abide the best we can, and like Not be a dick...seem to work the best in both Realities.
Whether you believe in Karma or not Dudeism works in Both Realities.

Just like my opinion dudes.

13, you just blew my mind. "Men Who Stare as Goats" as an effing prequel to TBL? Maybe we should be looking for more connections there!

I kinda' think of Bill Django as a distant relative of the Dude, maybe a third cousin or something like that. They both have similar mindsets, but Django's life took a different path--Duder went the college route, Django went military (it's been a while since I've seen it, so I can't remember if Django was a draftee or if he enlisted).

I really like that movie because it tells the truth about New Age. There are some people who learn somehow how to go through the wall and there are a lot of people who are trying to do this and they just bang with their head, need to see their doctor and use standard bandages and pills. And you cannot fully predict which of those two you are, even if they are telling you all the time that you only need to take five deep breaths and you will go to some other dimension. It is a long road.
