Hey Dudes, this is my first post, and I?m not officially a Dudeist but definitely a fan of Taoism. I?m an Advaitin, so I want to talk a little about that and how that relates to Dudeism, at least as far as I can tell from the outside, so to speak.

Tao means Way... as in the way that cannot be named, or the way that can be named is not the way... hmmm... now what do I say? Lol. Limitation of words... Lao Tzu said the Way can?t be named, but that didn?t stop him from using the word Tao. Way.

In Advaita Vedanta the limitations of words is also pointed out. You Are That. You are the Way. Hmmm... words are so limited, man. When Advaita says You are That, it doesn?t mean you the person and that you the person are God. That?s not it.

Maybe this bridge is wobbly. There are four basic pursuits. Pleasure, security, ethics, and liberation. Everyone seeks some kind of pleasure, be it music, games, food, etc. Everyone seeks security, such as food, clothes, shelter, money.

The pursuit of ethics is certainly part of Dudeism, as being in harmony with the Way is obviously ethical. You?re at one with the universe and that is good, for sure. You are the universe, actually, and that?s where Advaita Vedanta and the fourth pursuit come in.

The fourth pursuit is liberation, freedom, enlightenment, it is knowing what you are, not who the person is that you think you are. Advaita Vedanta says that you are not the body or mind that you take yourself to be. You are existence, awareness, consciousness. Existence is awareness is consciousness and there is no separation in it.

Awareness is like space, it is not an object but all objects depend on it. It is self-existent. Nothing creates it. It is. A good symbol for your true nature is space. Water is often used as a symbol, too, an ocean being like the whole, and the waves being like people, showing that no one is separate, we?re all water. I like the space symbol more, but water works as a symbol of non-duality. Namaste dudes 🙏🏻
