Howdy, dudes.

Just living the life of The Dude.

I returned to my university after a ten-year hiatus as a Firefighter Paramedic. Got my B.S. in Biology. It really is bullshit, though. It's just a piece of paper. But, med school requires it. So, fuck it. Was getting too much abuse from the brass in the FD. Told them to go fuck themselves and left (thanks to the support of my wife, who now feeds the monkey).

I'm a stay-at-home dad of three boys full-time (7, 4, and 2-years old). A medical scribe part-time. I have a medical school interview this Saturday and have had a really short fuse with the boys, often snapping over shit that, after the fact, I realize don't matter.

I've been using zazen meditation with a lot of success (and cutting back a bit on the coffee). I pretty much sit, no matter what. No matter how crazy bad I want to cut the session short to get up and do something, no matter what I end up thinking about, I sit. Today, I finally felt like it's starting to work. I think I can now calmly handle this interview and have more patience with my rugrats. Dudeism has really helped. I think it's exactly what a lot of us needed.

What else have you dudes found that works for you?

Fuck it, dudes. Let's go bowling.

Hey Dude, good luck in your interview!
I'm a clinical psychologist and I remember well how scary the interviews were for my doctoral program. But you've got a unique and positive story, and you'll stand out. Glad the zazen is working for you, and let the kids help you abide (tho I've got 3 too, and I realize how little they let you take it easy).
Anyway, sending you all the positivity vibes. ABIDE

Sometimes you eat the bar, and well, sometimes the bar -  he eats you!

I hope you make it to the finals, dude.

I would say to burn one on the way over but that might not be the best plan.

Thanks a lot, dudes. It definitely helps. The Walter came out a little this morning, but I'm doing my best at abiding now. I've been trying to get here for years and it really started to feel real this morning.

PriorRestraint, thanks for the groovy words, man. Far out.

BikerDude, I would love to burn one, man, especially since the crop came down today. But yeah, my SLF advised I go without for a few weeks prior to the interview, so I'm takin'er easy. Hit the oat soda a little last night.

Will let you dudes know if I get to mark it 8 or zero. Should know in about a week, from what I'm told by coworkers. Everyone's pretty cool about it. One of the guys on the interview panel actually wrote one of my letters of evaluation.

It can take a while for the devils weed to get out of your system.

On a Urine Drug Test, THC will appear as a positive within 2-5 hours of use. How long it will still show on a urine drug test is estimated based on frequency of use, but does not take into account the weight and body fat of the marijuana user:

One Time User may show positive for 1-6 days
Moderate User may show positive for 7-13 days
Frequent User may show positive for 15 or more days
Heavy User may show positive for 30 or more days
Some Heavy Pot Smokers have reported being positive 45-90 days after quitting

So, I slipped on a wet kitchen floor on my mom's floor about four hours after my interview, dislocating my right knee, tearing my MPFL (the ligament that connects your knee cap to your thigh bone), and internally degloving most of my leg (pulled the skin and fat from the muscle sheath, like when you rip the skin off of a chicken breast). May need surgery, but won't know until next week. Ortho drained 56 cc of blood and gave me a cortisone injection in the knee.

Gutters and strikes, dudes.

Mark it 8, dude! I GOT IN! I got the acceptance letter while at my doctor's appointment. Program starts in January. Plenty of time to recover. It just sucks because we won't have my income because I can't bend my knee, can't work. May have to pull from my fire department retirement, which I was planning to rollover into my new career retirement.

But, fuck it, dudes, I got in!

Thanks for the support!

No worries on the MJ, BD. I was in so much pain, I burned through my entire stash in the first week after my fall.

zazen meditation has helped me quite immensely as well.  I find myself losing more Walter traits and taking on more Dudely traits in every sitting.  I've also begun studying the teachings of the Buddha.  I've found its take on life's sufferings to be quite calming.  I've begun by studying the four noble truths.  Give that a try, a good book that I found is called "What the Buddha taught" by Walpola Rahula.  I first took it out at my local library, but then decided I had to own it so I could read it over whenever I wanted so I picked it up on amazon for like ten or eleven bucks.

I think you were right in splitting from a place that was being all fascist like towards you.  Like the Buddha taught: the root of suffering is attachment.  Whatever we're attached to, whether it's a job or stuff or another person, it's not good man.  Life is impermanent and everything around is also.  So remember, ya can't be worried about that shit, life goes on man.

Fortunately, I'm adhering to a pretty strict, uh, drug, uh, regimen to keep my mind, you know, uh, limber

Sorry to hear about your fall, dude, but holy shit congratulations on getting into med school. Such a huge accomplishment, especially with 3 kids at home and having been out of the school achieving game for a while. Us dudes are super proud of you. Now good luck abiding med school lol

Dudes:

I missed y'all and had to check in. I didn't want to be the hit-it-and-quit-it forum Dude.

It's been crazy over here. My PA program started after the New Year. It's been a wild ride, but I'm finally starting to get into the rhythm of everything. Trying to abide.

Get this. They want this Dude to be class president. Someone came up to me and said, "We want someone laid back in the position and not a power-monger. We think you'd be perfect. We want you to represent us."

Far out, man. Far fucking out.

So, I kinda committed to running today. I mean, I know I have to attend/run some meetings and maybe handle some drama here and there, but I plan on takin'er easy and taking care of business one day at a time.

Coming back here and reading your replies really makes me want to utilize my inner Dude throughout all this.

Keep on abiding, Dudes. I'll check back in, soon.  8)
