Yep, sounds spooky folks, but I can see some comparisons...

Now lets not confuse all this with devil worship, you know, the whole dark robe sacrifice-a-virgin bat eating shindigging that kind of goes on out there.

I am talking about the literary works of Anton Lavey, especially The Satanic Bible and The Devils Notebook.

Just taken an interest and thought I would check it out. What I found surprised me. This whole Satanism thing really is one big 'Fuck It' to the uptight world. It dont care what people think, it allows us to be our own person, be individual, enjoy a few oat sodas and kick back. All in all it seems very relaxed and very open to all that is good in the world....and nothing ever needs to sacrificed.

I reckon open your mind a bit here, check it out 8)

I've studied Laveyen Satanism, and I quick frankly think it's the exact opposite of Dudeism.

Yeah, like there are superficial similarities between the two religions, but they're rooted in very different philosophical soil. Satanism as posited by Anton Lavey was heavily influenced by the hardline libertarianism found in Ayn Rand's writings. Rand's brand of libertarianism advocated complete self servitude, even if it means stepping on the toes of others.

Dudeism on the other hand is more rooted in Epicureanism and Taoism, which advocates being one with the universe and following your path. But The Dude cared about that poor woman, man. Yeah he wanted his rug back, but whenever The Dude ran into people who needed his help, he helped them, even if it meant sticking his neck out. He handed off the money, and he faced down The Big Lebowski when he found out that he was stealing from needy little urban achievers. I don't see a Satanist or a Objectivist doing that (a follower of Rand's philosophy, and pretentious ass name).

The only thing the two really have in common is the pursuit of personal happiness, but even then, Satanists pursue unfettered hedonism at the expense of others, while Dudeists pursue hedonism while taking into consideration the needs of others around them, and overall being disciplined about their personal pursuits.

But that's just like, you know, uh, my opinion, man. Also welcome to our quiet little beach community! I hope you make yourself at home here, glad to have ya, man! Bars' over there...

Also, I fucking love The Blues too, can't go wrong with a little Howlin' Wolf, Muddy Waters, or Clapton (or Zepplin)

Hey thanks man, and thanks for your wise words, get what you are saying there.....will tune into that over a few oat sodas.

As for blues music, thats my life in a bag right there, been playing the blues since I was 9, taught by a roadie for Status Quo (RIP Rick Parfitt) and even host a blues radio show here in New Zealand. Like you wisely say, you cant go wrong

Peace to you man

I studied levay satanism in high school and couldn't agree with you more. The over abundant level of selfish hedonism and a degree of sadism is cool at 16 but come on man. Luckily I learned to just chill out and a year after I graduated Oliver created Dudeism An in 2012 I got ordained and what have you.

You just kinda grow out after a while, don't you? :P Yeah I went through a Satanist phase in High School myself ahahaha. It felt good then, but then I was living in essentially a consequence free environment ahahaha. Things change when you get older, man.

You've uncovered it.
We are legion.
We have penetrated the very fabric of your lives.
We are crawling through the woods out back with our ritual daggers clenched in our teeth.

Nice interpretation Brother! I read the Satanic bible, Miltons works, and without getting too far into it I was involved in a modern group that claims to have fixed all of Leveys problems with his Church of Satan back in the day. What Ive (and this does NOT apply to everydude) learned firsthand is there is a HUGE uptight general feeling, ESPECIALLY towards any other religious belief system. This attitude extends to us as Dudeists as well. ANY belief system is viewed as a mistake. They are pure militant atheists. There was WAY to much heaviness for me there. I used what i could in the very short time I was apart of it, then I said thanks dudes, and left.

I say take what you can from what resonates with you. Buddha even said to question everything. Even in Dudeism we should strive to look inward. If it works, cool, if not, fuck it man!

Taken me a very long time to get my head round to that way of thinking. But after some sixty years mulling over the issues, it works for me.

Isn't a large part of Satanism, as defined by Levey, about domination? I read some of the Satanic Bible years and years ago so I might be mistaken.

Funny you should mention this. LaVeyan Satanism and Dudeism have both been a strong influence on me. Perhaps it's my Dude side and Walter side fighting with each other.
I believe LaVey put some good shit out there in his day, but his followers take themselves way too seriously.

Dude Skippy

I don't know anything about any of this. But the mention of virgin sacrifice... Seems like a waste of a perfectly good virgin to me.  :P
