Howdie there Rev,

The problem I found with meditation beginner's guides is that they tend to make your mind too uptight. If you "try" too hard to meditate or focus on your breath, it takes away the spontaneity of it all and ends up stressing you out. Meditation for me is more about allowing your thoughts to fly like the Dude does on his carpet, rather than sitting cross-legged with a cleft asshole. The best two books I came across that translated that are:

a. The Abide Guide (and no I am not paid to promote it ;-) ) - https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Books/Abide-Guide-Benjamin/1569759766/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1482443816&sr=8-1&keywords=abide+guide

b. The Warrior Within: The Philosophies of Bruce Lee - https://www.amazon.co.uk/Warrior-Within-Philosophies-Bruce-Lee/dp/0809231948/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1482443832&sr=8-2&keywords=the+warrior+within
Lee was a Master Dudeist, pretty much on par with The Dude. This book is full of insights on the art of taking it easy and it's also more accessible for people who aren't necessarily familiar with Dudeist lingo.

Good luck man.
