I work in a call center so of course the main part of my job involves hearing. However, for the past week my left ear's been stuffed up. I figured I'd just gotten water in it or it was just my sinuses but it's gotten worse and I can barely hear when people talk to me. I went to the non-emergency treatment center at my local hospital and I guess I not only have an ear infection but also a busted ear drum. I don't know how I even managed when I'm not in any pain. So now I'm taking antibiotics and can't have any White Russians for at least two weeks. Bummer!  :(

Dude Skippy

I work in a call centre myself. It's hard enough to hear people at the best of times. I hope you get better soon man.

That is a bummer, Man! Hopefully you get well soon. Are they having you do that thing where you blow up a balloon with your nose?

I worked at call center as well, at least you don't have to listen to people get pissed at you for just doing your job for a while!

(also, if there is a hell, it's making unsolicited phone calls to people at 7PM)

I worked in inbound customer service for awhile and that wasn't all that bad but you're right about outcalling. It's quite possibly the worst job I ever had and I've had some shitty jobs, dude.

I worked at a call center once... it was a clusterfuck

Management had no clue what they were doing... the top manager had been there ~10 years, nobody else had lasted more than 5 (high turnover)

Taking inbound calls from DirecTV customers... they fired 200+ people a month before football season (their busiest season)...

When I started, every single customer I talked to had been on hold for over an hour... Imagine a guy paying $300+ for some football games that aren't working, then waiting on hold for 2 hours before I answer the phone... never been yelled at by so many people I've never met... I heard it all

I can fucking relate. I worked for a market research company, and I swear, every time I had a question, they'd refer me to someone else in management, and I would referred to someone else and I would get stuck in this impossible loop of referrals.

We would call people at like 6 or 7pm their time (dinner time for most folks), and ask them to participate in literally the most drawn out and extensive surveys, we'd literally ask them "Would you be interested in taking a 15 minute survey about heart conditions?". This job made me so undude.

This makes me wonder how many people actually said "Yes".  Years ago I worked with a guy who liked it when he'd get a call like this, because he had fun screwing with the callers by giving them answers that made no sense.  He'd start off by playing along so they'd think he was sincere, but it would soon devolve into something like, "Do you currently have any family members with a heart condition?", and he'd answer, "Octopus," or something like that.  He also said he was surprised by the number of these callers who would continue even though he gave them non-answers, and assumed they got paid for the number of surveys they completed regardless of whether or not the information was useful.

I've never even heard of that. No, the doc didn't have me do that.

I'm feeling much better now though. Ear drum healed nicely and I can hear again. Praise Dude!
