Interviewed for a job in school so I have stuff on the weekends so I said those were off limits ( ya  I know shouldn't have said that) pretty much right then and there they said you won't got hired because you have to have weekends open so when you get it open call us back and we'll set up another interview ...
        So the first thing I had to do was tell my parents who went completely Walter on me  then I was extremely angry and I shouldn't have but I went Walter and I had to obviously say I was sorry for blowing the interview and going Walter ...
     I just wanted to put this here as a way to get my dirty underwear out and unlike Walter I don't want this to come back

Many of the "Big Lebowskis" of this world expect you to bend to their will otherwise they'll find someone else who will. But we've all gotta feed the monkey somehow. Too bad about all the aggression man. It's a bummer.

Today all workers are at the mercy of employers.
Companies offshore jobs and fill high tech jobs with foreign workers.
The sum effect is to put the average US worker between a rock and a hard place.
It's not an accident.
Labor Unions are a thing of the past and have very little power these days.
Big Companies can do pretty much whatever they like.
And nobody is watching out for the average person who will turn around and vote in the very politicians who are responsible for their situation.
Your "revolution" is over, Mr.  Lebowski!  Condolences!  The bums lost!
My advice is, do what your parents did!  Get a job, sir!  The bums will
always lose-- do you hear me, Lebowski?
Just kidding.
Sounds like you are young.
The only thing I'd say is that having very in demand skills gives you a few cards to play.
Without that they've got you over the barrel.

I echo what Biker Dude said. The labor union thing hits particularly hard because I was a union organizer in the early 80s out of necessity. I worked in a place where the people doing the dirty work were underpaid in comparison to other places like ours as far as demographics and overtly abused. But the scary thing today is that the politicians now take pride in letting the voting public know their records of gutting the unions. Scumbag Scott Walker of Wisconsin, in fact, compared labor unions to ISIS, and took this message on the road during his presidential run. The worst part is that he has a significant proportion of the voters convinced that unions are part of the axis of evil. When I speak with some of these turds I am horrified to hear that they have taken some of his catch phrases and made them their own. And they don't even want to be reminded that things like weekends off and vacations would not exist were it not for the efforts of unions in the first place.

Really, I'm in the job hunt like you Dude. Best advice is just make yourself as available as possible, there will still be days off just maybe not on a saturday.

This is just my limited experience being in a union for the past 8 years, maybe mine was particularly bad but... All I ever felt my union did was take my money and negotiate a terrible contract that assured us would "save our jobs", yet here I am now about to be laid off via company bankruptcy. Frankly, I ought to send them a letter demanding my union dues back since they failed to achieve, even in the modest task that was their charge. 

That said, I've worked in a few retail stores without unions, I can't imagine for the life of me how they get away with treating people like that.
