I love how pretentious the second video is, until Jeff gets a bar straw.

The Dude gives a shout out to Tito's vodka!  Hmm, I wonder why that sounds so familiar...

I'd like to make the following points subject to the disclaimer that this is all non-canonical.

1. Fuck the fru-fru. It's inconsistent with the movie and the ethos it emanates.

2. Brand names are to be eschewed. That said, Kahlua is tough to replace. I'm still trying to find Kahlua "Especial," which, I suspect, would be even better than regular Kahlua in a white russian.

3. Man, Stoli or Russian Standard really seem the best vodkas for this. You can spend more, or less, but we're mixing this stuff with cream, milk, and liquors.

That's just, like, your opinion man.  Sounds a bit reactionary to me.  Some might say the Dude's love of rugs is a little fru-fru, but that's cool man, that's cool.  I think Jeff turns it into satire.

The reason I call out Tito's is because I dislike vodka for the most part.  I'm a gin girl when it comes to white liquors.  Tito's is the first I've found to taste palatable to me, not give me hangovers, plus I like the fact it's made in small batches by some dudes in Austin.  It's not that expensive, and just tastes clean.

It has gone up a couple bucks in price around here.  From $17 to $20 for 750ml.  I think because they know they're good and its catching on.  Still cheaper than other so called premium vodkas.

But this is all just like, my opinion.

I am also not a vodka lover and mix mine with a good (ish) white rum. As long as the ingredients are the right balace of light/dark or what have you, then to thine own be dude, dude.

Can you still call it a White Russian if you don't use vodka?  Rum is believed to have been first distilled on the island of Barbados by plantation slaves, so maybe your drink would be a White Caribbean?  ;D

Hmmm...I wonder how it would taste with tequila.  A White Mexican?  8)

I wonder what white russian is called in russia? Wiser, more lingual fellers than myself may know. Anyone have any promising uh y'know leads? Also, not sure what the preferred nomenclature is for a white caribbean is?

Brother D

Oh according to wikipedia, a rum version is called a white cuban and a white mexican is made with horchata, apparently... Who knew!

Mmm, alcoholic horchata...  sounds nummy.

Man, if you take a white russian and put it in a slightly bigger glass and fill the rest it with soda (coke or pepsi, your call), you get a colorado bulldog, which is basically just like a root beer float for adults except, you know, not with root beer unless that's your thing. 8)

Sounds far out, man. Far-fucking-out. I'm going to try that.
