Hey, dudes.

Let's see, a bit of background might be appropriate here. I am currently a 3rd Year University Student at La Trobe University in Melbourne, Australia. My Major is in Archaeology, with a Minor in History. I am hoping to get a PhD on the Mayans and to excavate in Central America for work, once I have the clams to fly over there.

In order to accomplish this modest task that has been my life's charge since I was 3 years old, I enrolled in Spanish Classes at Uni, with the first Semester's work from First Year being held last Semester and the 2nd Semester of 1st Year being held in February, which is Summer in Aus.

But now that classes have resumed, there's a big fucking piss-stain on the rug, dudes. Thanks to the "Reorganisation" of the Humanities & Social Sciences Faculty late last year, a huge number of the staff have either been laid off, or have left La Trobe to try and feed the monkey by way of working somewhere else.

It gets worse: in the Spanish Course normally, we students get a 1 hour lecture and 2 90 minute tutes a week for this course; however, the human paraquat who are in charge of the faculty have not paid any of the Spanish teachers or tutors any clams since June of 2014, not even for the Summer course, and because of this, we, the students, are paying for a whole semester-long course when in reality, we are not even getting HALF of the FUCKING new shit that needs to come to light in order to pass the course!!!

And the fucking icing on the cake: The lack of clams has been reported to the human paraquat in Admin at the head of the Faculty by the Head of the Spanish Department, and their response? "We're really busy at the moment, but we'll let you know when we find the money to pay the tutors". Fuckin' assholes.

Sorry if this post has offended anyone, but this ain't just my future they're screwing over; it's the future of every student doing Spanish at La Trobe, and the future of the teachers. Hell, it's the future of the entire fucking course they're screwing with!!!!!

If anyone has anything to say about this, that would be a 10 in my scorebook.

Later, dudes.

I'd have a nice cold oat soda and roll a few.
Can't be worried about all the shit man.
Just keep saying "Nothing is fucked here, Nothing is fucked here, Nothing is fucked here".

Can you fill in a few blanks about the archeology/excavation part of this thread. One of the questions I have is what kind of digging are you planning on doing? What kind of things are you looking for and where?

jgiffin

Consider looking into other programs if this one is being butt-punched to high heaven. You can't fight campus higher-ups; they're an enigma unto their academic selves. Maybe just find a place with a great Spanish program and then transfer to another university, perhaps even in Central America, to complete the archaeology degree.

Also, I had no idea "archaeology" had a second "a" in there until I retyped the fucking thing like eight times. Learning is cool.

NewDude29

Well, the Australian/British spelling of Archaeology has the "a"; the American spelling doesn't has that.

Also, when I say excavation, I mean digging up the settlements, cities and/or pyramids of the Mayans of the Central American Highlands (South-East Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras, Belize) and analysing the artefacts found on said excavations so that the future generations can learn about the history of that civilisation.

Finally, I can't transfer to another Uni until the end of semester, which for us Aussies is in June, so I'm stuck at La Trobe until then. Plus, I don't have the clams to transfer to another course, coz I'd have to transfer into a different course at a different Uni, meaning I'd have to pay for an entire new course, and I'm on HECS support at La Trobe. This means that if I did transfer to, say, Monash Uni, then I'd have to pay the entire fee up front, and I definitely DON'T have the clams for that!!!! That said, I am planning to transfer to the University of Texas in Austin, TX, to do my PhD, if I can get through the Honours Program after my Undergrad studies.

Anyway, gracias for the advice, dudes. Appreciate it.
Later, dudes. Happy Day Of The Dude!

Have you considered a short-term vocation in the less-than-legal substance distribution field? I hear it can be quite profitable. Otherwise, I dunno man, you just gotta deal with the fucking fascists for a couple years while you juggle your schedule and deal with the flaming, spiked hurdles they throw at you.

mrmadman

ND29, all I can add is hang in there and make that transfer to Austin happen. Maybe you know this already, but it is a truly Dudely town. (Except in the capitol itself, that's a serious concentration of paraquat.)  I lived there for a few years and enjoyed almost every day there.  It's also a primo place to learn and practice Spanish.

MADman abides.

PS I second the oat soda idea as well.

Thanks for the idea, man, but I wouldn't be able to abide with myself and my own conscience if I did anything to hurt the archaeological heritage of the world. I know that sounds kinda douchie of me when I say that, but I've wanted to be an archaeologist since I was 3 years old, and I would never be able to live with myself if I deliberately hurt a part of a nation's or people's cultural heritage. I do get your point that the money in the artefact acquisition field is way better, but that would be destroying part of someone's identity and culture, not to mention that I'd probably get thrown in the cage by the Man. To put it another way, if I did that, it'd be like someone stealing the original film tapes and scripts of TBL and then destroying them, just because they were paid to do so by some human paraquat who, for some reason, hates TBL and Dudeists, and wants to hurt us all right where it hurts the most.

However, Uni is getting better. The Spanish course is finally getting going, and the teacher sure can fucking roll, man, even though he is no creep. Anyway, thanks for the idea, man. Appreciate your thoughts.

Peace and Abide, dudes!

Understood. I meant drugs, though.

Hey, Dudes.

Thanks for all the advice that y'all gave me on this issue.

Fortunately, Uni has finished for the semester, and Spanish done sorted itself out in the end. And I followed your advice, had a few oat sodas and a Caucasian, a few well-earned baths (with whale songs of course) and I felt much more in tune with the Dude afterwards.

I just wanted to say 'Thankee' for the advice and opinions, and that I'll see y'all further down the trail.

Peace & abide, dudes!
