An international hacking ring has stolen as much as $1 billion from more than 100 banks in 30 countries in what may be the biggest banking breach ever, a new report shows.

The scheme, which goes back as far as 2013, uses malware so sophisticated that hackers have used it to dispense cash from ATMs without any physical contact with the machines, according to the report by Moscow-based security firm Kaspersky Labs.

The hackers then sent mules to pick up the cash, according to the shocking report released Monday.

A gang of cyber criminals has pulled off a highly sophisticated bank heist, targeting more than a hundred banks in 30 countries and stealing as much as $1 billion. That's according to a report from Kaspersky Lab. The Moscow-based computer security firm discovered this attack after they were hired to investigate problems with an ATM in Ukraine. And before we go on, we should note that Kaspersky Lab is a corporate sponsor of NPR News programming.

I don't go to church on Sunday
Don't get on my knees to pray

I got my own special way

;D With all that money, a 1000 dollars, or clams, bones or what have you, should be easy to come up with........

Definitely not Amateurs.

I really dig the whole way they did it.
They send over some sap and remotely make the machine spew dollars.
It's a very cool sort of undertaking. Like something from a movie.
As I understand it they were Russian. And it started in the Ukraine.
So they were calling somebody on the phone.
"OK get ready. Here comes the cash!"
Blamo!
Machine start spewing cash.
Kudos for style.

Poetic justice actually.  I don't mind seeing bankers lose a bit of pocket change, while these corrupt fuckers fund wars, and make trillions by lending out to governments with interest rates that create false debt.  Banks and corporations rule the world as we know it, so hopefully this is the tip of the iceberg.  And - maybe this is just one of many we just happened to hear about!

Good point: karma is a bitch, man. I've been suckered into way too many $2.00 withdrawal charges to access my own money...hell, more like $8.00 when frequenting establishments of disrepute. But they're the only ones that still let me in.

Their day will come.
