I know I'm not the first one to notice the resemblance, but still...

Who else thinks that perhaps the character of the Dude was partially inspired by the character of Lance in Pulp Fiction?

Facially, they're pretty similar--same eye color, hair, and facial hair.  But it's more than that.  They both seem to have similar "laid back" personalities.  On top of all this, Lance walks around in his bath robe and sandals.  It would make plausible sense, considering TBL was released just 4 years after Pulp Fiction.

What do you all think?  Coincidences?  Unconscious influence?

ANSWER THE PHONE, LANCE!!!
Second favorite movie, right there! And thanks for showing the comparison, I've seen both movies more times than I care to admit and never noticed that.

Very interesting point there. I'd like to think of Lance as the Dude's offspring as referenced at the end of TBL by the Stranger.

The chronology doesn't quite work. Pulp Fiction came out and was ostensibly set in the early/mid-1990s. Lance was, close as I can tell, 25-30 in the movie. TBL came out in 1998 and was set in the late 1991 or so. Still, it's a nice thought. I could see a little Lebowski turning out that way.
