It amazed me that the NSA had bothered to collect so much data whole phone conversations and so on it just seems so pointless when you look at what happened in boston , what did they actually achieve by doing all this ? will we ever even know ??

though i dont think everybody talking like a terrorist would fix anything at least it can give us a laugh :)

sad but so true at the same time...

i would probably say that the runner up would be "we need you for a meeting with the supervisor"

This is actually quite frightening even if they are only collecting "META_DATA" as they claim.
Not content.
You have to think of how this data could be processed by a well written program that can crunch it all and produce something useful. Just knowing who people talk and text and email is very very powerful when it's all put together.
Imagine you look up a person, any person, and you are shown a plot with the person at the center and lines leading out to all the people they have had contact with. The user can click any of those people and move to a plot with that person at the center and all his connections displayed. You start to fill in biographical, political and economic data from many sources on everybody and WOW! The park is yours.
You could easily fuck with absolutely anybody with very little imagination.
Image political parties getting ahold of this sort of thing. They already Gerymander and manipulate the vote as much as they can. Imaging what they could do with this sort of monstrosity.
That's not to mention what the FBI, CIA NSA etc could do...
Does the term Cointelpro mean anything.
Imagine a witch hunt like the House Committee on Un-American Activities back with McCarthy.
Imagine how people could fuck with coworkers or staffing companies could fuck with people they don't employ (which they do all the time now. Fucking headhunters suck ass.)
I'm telling you it's a step away from all out fascism at worst and a fuck storm of paraquat and shit in the least.
